Apocalyptic Homesteading (Day 1221)

Hello Everyone!

The weather got better, Researching prefab buildings, Some frozen paint, Painting lumber & A late day nap!

Alright, I am right on time this evening with my writing routine... and although I have been sipping on my nightly espresso I am still feeling a bit slow witted. I am mainly feeling that way because I awoke not that long ago from a late day nap, scrambled around doing my late day chores... and kind of just want to go back to sleep again.

Last night I was up rather late even though I tried to go to sleep early... and I think that had a lot to do with how I had napped most of the day away. I did however wake up not all that long after sunrise... and did my usual Hive engagement routine without going to sleep again afterwards so that was good.

The other thing that I did this morning was looking online at various sheds and metal buildings... that might work as either storage or as temporary living quarters at the new place. Most of the prices on those kinds of buildings are not too bad (especially for used ones) but the quality of them is nothing special to say the least.

Since the weather had significantly improved compared to the previous few days I got outdoors rather early... and got everything setup to do some painting. At first I had been thinking to use some of the five gallons of green exterior paint that I have... but then decided that I did not want to open it unless I had to.

In short I wound up opening a one gallon can of white exterior paint... and I gotta say that it having frozen several dozen times over the last few years had left it in piss poor shape as far as paint goes. After lots and lots of stirring though, I eventually got it to mix together... and got most of the lumps out of it in doing so.

Painting the lumber itself was a bit of a mindless task... but it took me the better part of the rest of the day to get it all done. I also had to shuffle the painted boards onto the lower rungs of the sawhorses once they dried (to accommodate new boards to paint) and cut down some of the longer boards... so it was not like I was only painting the entire time.

While I was doing all that, I kept asking myself if it was really worth the effort to take the lumber with me... and I kept coming to the conclusion that it will be worth it given that I will need to make some shelving, build a new chicken coop... and probably need to fashion a bed of some sort. In other words, my rationale was that I have yet to go into a new scenario where having lumber would not be beneficial.

As far as whether painting it all is worth it... I really dislike sawing on painted wood... but painting it seems like the best solution for dealing with how much rat waste the wood has had on it. I know that scrubbing it with bleach water does well to sterilize it and all... but I did notice that even after that it still had an odor of rat urine to it... which is why I opted for painting it.

Although I got all the lumber that I had already cleaned with bleach water painted today... I still have a bunch more of it in that lumber pile behind the shop tent that I have to pull out, scrub with bleach water... and ultimately slap some paint on it all. Given that I used up all of that one gallon can of paint today... I might have to open that green paint anyways... that is if I do not decide that enough is enough (with the lumber) and abandon the project altogether!

Well, I think that is all the words that I have in me for this entry. I hope that everyone is doing well... and not overthinking everything ad infinitum. Ta ta for now.
