Signs of the season change are upon us! Hmmm...That sounded a bit on the "woe to us all" side of things, but really, this is more of an observational post from a homesteading perspective. I might also be weird because I have just done five hours of coursework without a break. I'm also sick.

Yep, the first great herald of the season change is that I was stricken with what I think is a cold. I'm not sure anymore, my head it full of snot and my body feels like it's been beaten with Galaxy Gas containers that were affixed to fishing poles. Yep, I'm loopy.

I mean, I haven't been ill since last spring, so I am not complaining, like being sick is ever convenient.

Although it is a touch annoying to be smacked with it on my first week off from the bakery meat-grinder.

Sigh.

It also made baking a couple dozen fancy treats for a client a bit fun yesterday. I could feel the immune deluge coming on, but never one to cede a battle, I pushed through. I also had to mom and take the boy to town to get some work boots so he could meet his auto-mechanic trade school class syllabus requirements and be a good example as an upperclassman in that program.

So yes, today I feel awesome!

With the impending election anxiety and malcontent floating about in the zeitgeist, I have found myself floating more in the learning and discovery side of the pool. My course work is most engaging, although the philosopher in me has been struggling with some of the DEI and postmodern proper speak that I am finding in some of my upper level Social Work classes. Aside from the query that I have regarding who and/or what they derive all the standards and procedures and the lenses through which they should be viewed from, I am also most curious about how any actual work gets done considering the vast amount of considerations one must make before even getting to doing the work that is needing done.

So, long story short, much thinking is being done.

As this season of growth is winding down and we slip into the fall, the time of harvest and ceasing, I find myself greedily taking in the final views of summer before fall officially begins next week.

Next to my old barn there are volunteer sunflowers that arose from our dried flower making endeavors from last year. Both the hubs and I have really enjoyed all the little bursts of yellow up against the faded red and well-used background that is our old barn.

I think the hens and Oscar the Duck might like them too, but only from a culinary viewpoint.

Anyway, the yurt is also all the way erected. Only the door is left to be installed. Then, I will get it all cleaned up and plug the propane stove in. Next spring we are building a bathhouse that has a composting toilet, solar-heated water shower and sink, and such for those who stay in the yurt. I really think the whole edifice will be a very serene and rejuvenating space. I will probably move in there from time to time, you know, for reasons.

I have so many things to get tended to. There is wood to split, food to preserve, and a root cellar to dig and finish, but today, today I am going to spend resting. I need it,

Plus, I got a paper to write tomorrow...
