The snow had started to fall overnight and by the morning we had an inch. The storm was pushing through in a rather messy way and had not solidified into a mass of moisture once the light began to increase.
I got the boys to school as it kept trying to snow and it wasn't until after 9am when it really began to dump.
The sheep all ended up big fluffy balls of snow waddling around the pen between the hay bale and the pile of grain.
Around 11am I headed to the greenhouse to check on it. The air temp inside was 35F.
I pulled back the row cover on the upper end to find the soil still thawed and slightly warm thanks to the heat tape.
The row was over freezing.
While the soil over the heat tape was 43F.
The other row was 36F surface temp. All this after having the -15F temps. I did notice that the freeze had wicked much of the moisture from the exposed soil and I have to make sure to water again soon. The temps are rising and will be above freezing this weekend so I will be able to then.
Mid day the snow really hit as the bulk of the storm came over.
I was out shoveling the deck and hot tub cover when I heard the beeping of the plow. I was super happy to see the scraper clear our road a little before 1pm.
I shoveled the snow off the deck and within 20 minutes there was nearly an inch on it already. The middle of the storm was really dropping the snow. The wonderful part of it was the snow was champagne, super light and fluffy and very easy to clear. I could broom it off or shovel it off, I could have used a backpack blower even.
I ran out and checked out the plow's work once they had left.
I picked the boys up from school as the backside of the storm neared. It took until near 3pm to finally peter out. With the storm dumping as much as it did the schools all canceled all after school activities which meant that the t-shirt pickup from the race that wasn't was postponed as well as the first wrestling practice for R was canceled. That made the afternoon and evening easier since we didn't have to leave the farm.
@stryeyz was on her way home from work and I got my ass in gear and got the snowblower going to clear her parking spot quickly. I then made my way out the drive way and had made it past the mailbox when she pulled into the farm.
It's nice with this light snow I was able to set the snowblower to full forward speed, lock the controls and just guide the blower along. I'm also quite happy I pulled the air filter out as it had choked the engine down too much, with it running right it had more power and threw the snow much farther.
It took me an hour in all to get all the snow blowing done around the farm. Again the light snow made it much easier than it could have been if it was a wetter snow.
Continuing our movie watching I put on The Last Start Fighter while we ate. I remember the movie from childhood and up through adulthood. For the time I remember it being super cool but now it is SUPER HOKEY, though I still like the story, the graphics and "special effects" were awful. Some movies stand the test of time and advances in technology, others don't.
Got out to soak with the nice thick layer of snow coating everything and making the world silent. The highway was barely audible thanks to the buffer the snow built.
Thanks to the plows being out early yesterday and the light champagne snow the boys have normal school day today. It is 6F right now at 6am and we are expecting rain starting tomorrow into Saturday, this will make the region a blast to drive around...
I'll be moving a bunch more snow around today to prep for the incoming rain and melting, clear off the hangar and greenhouse of the snow, I have to vacuum the floors around the house, work on my greenhouse pricing spreadsheet as I have some more I need to workout, I have stuff to shift to the Tardis to make room in the house, and then figure out something for dinner this evening.

Snow is lot fun 😆👌👌👌☕ I hope you have lot hot dreanks ready also.
I remember borrowing The Last Starfighter on VHS from the library almost 20 years ago. It was a landmark film for CGI, and sure, that doesn't hold up today, and the plot is generic, but it still managed to be a fun movie. Something most modern action films seem to forget.
