PDC 9er, Learning FreeCad, Rain Continues, 3d Printing, Practice - Friday

in Homesteading19 hours ago

Yesterday morning I turned on the PDC in the perfect time to watch Damon Heta throw a 9 dart leg. It's only the 2nd of the tournament and was the next leg after this pic. Even Luke was jumping around the stage in celebration and the crowd went ape shit. Luke ended up winning the match in spite of the perfect leg by Damo. Such a hard thing to do throwing a 9 darter.

I'm totally amazed at how good FreeCad is of a program. There is an incredible amount of modeling/drafting/building/inventing capacity within it and the addons. I got a model rocket addon even!!!

I grabbed a file from Thingiverse but the end had a bunch of vent holes in it that I wanted to close up. I went about it likely the hard way BUT it worked perfectly in the end. I made cylinders then worked the position coordinates until I had each filling the hole. I then increased the size of each cylinder to overlap the surrounding, shortened the height to match the inside, and then exported the .stl file. When I dropped it into Creality Print it was perfect!

The year is going out with a splash thanks to all the rain that continues to fall on a seemingly daily basis now. Nothing for weeks then everything all at once. I'll probably regret typing it but snow would be nice on the farm. The mud is a bit much and would be nice if it were to freeze.

Had the late PDC session on the afternoon while I plugged along more in FreeCad. I had gotten the printer going at 8am and it took until 5pm for them to be done. 2 more to test out now and I got the 3rd print started, the model I had fixed in FreeCad. I went ahead and printed the 3rd in original form with the vent holes as it only used about 30 grams of ABS. I want to see how much difference the venting makes to the action of it. I could do with a chronograph though to actually see some numbers and not just "it sounds better".

I got our lift tickets ordered for skiing today in the afternoon while I had Drunk History on random. The rains kept flitting back in and then would be gone for a bit. We kept getting bands of rain that would hit but barely show on the doppler.

It's rather handy having the pantry to put the printer in for venting. I just have to make sure to run the leveling after each move.

There is the feel of the darts, the weight of each one in the hand that is the fine tuning of each throw. After warmup I get to the point where I feel the weight more keenly and find myself able to drop a dart right on top of another. It's a weird process that I'd like to cut the warmup time aspect some to more directly slip into form. In over a year now I've only hit two 180s I think, maybe 3. That is shit all for a year of practice but shows how weirdly hard the game is.

Managed to get out to soak later due to @stryeyz having to keep working so late. I ended up out thanks to my fidgetiness and the rain that was falling harder again.

Was raining again this morning when I woke. PDC is on now, 49N got 6" of snow yesterday so it should be pretty nice this afternoon for our first ski trip of the season. I need to wash clothes this morning first thing, move the printer back to it's table, and then likely have to figure out dinner tonight.

Glad to hear you got your lift tickets ordered!👍
What's the name of the ski area?

I just checked it out looks like a decent ski area!👍
We are close to Mount Baker, my son used to be ski patrol there!😀

I need to get to Baker. I was told my great grandparents were the oldest to summit it at the time back in the 30s/40s? Maybe 50s. The ski resort would be good to visit as well.

That's interesting family history, you should definitely check out Baker!!👍😀
