Harvests, Scooter WORKS, Tree, Cleanup, The Great Lost Turkey Roundup, Sore - Thursday

The moth was plastered on the screen yesterday morning and wouldn't leave for anything. They are out en-mass now in the giant rush to procreate before winter. Nicely though the trap is catching oodles of them.

Got the boys to school then headed out to the garden where I just went though the greenhouse and got a moderate tub of produce.

The new sprocket for the scooter went on super easy and instantly the motor worked correctly. I went to air up the tires and found the rear tube was toasted so off to North 40 I went to get new ones. While there I noticed these tires which are a taller sidewall than the ones I have on the scooter but they are lower rated so not sure they could handle the speed...

I had a pair of things to do. First was to pull the rear wheel apart to get the tire and tube off. A pain in the ass but in the end the best as I got oil on the bearings from the inside which made the wheel smooth as silk. The batteries had to get swapped as the lead on one had a hole in the coating and the plug on the other was missing covering. The 2 batteries got locked down and I have the charging port locked to the seat base.

This thing is damn fast and has some solid torque to it. My real question now is if it will be able to carry me, my wing, and harness up hills...

With that in mind I ordered a set of sprockets. This will give me the ability to change the gear ratio in the field. Say I need to climb a hill I can swap out the sprocket to the 9 tooth and off I go or if it is flatter I can put on the 15 tooth and get highest speed. The way I have the motor mounted it makes the swap a minute or two at most.

Wandered up the hillside and then around the upper pen checking the fence. Our squiggle tree stands right on the edge of the hill and has some serious kinks.

In the early afternoon I was hauling stuff to the lumber racks when I found these fungus popping up out of the super dry soil by the coop. I later found other fungus growing down by the creek, despite the lack of rain we have had lately.

The past weeks as I have worked on the gear shed I had been hearing turkeys pipping in the creek area and saw them across the creek on our neighbor's property. I had noticed we were down turkeys but thought they got eaten, but NOPE!

The boys got home from school and I sent them over to chase the turkey back to our farm. I was down spreading more amaranth seeds when they rode by on the road. They had to go somewhere o sent my boys home but J and R had managed to chase the turkeys across the creek so the three of us went tromping down into the jungle. 5 turkeys were in the brush and wouldn't move due to how thick it was.

J grabbed one hen and I ended up with both toms, fat ass toms, super heavy toms.

I carried both fat ass toms through the brush and tromped up the steep ass hill by where I dumped all the dirt. The toms got lobbed over the fence to the farm and back down to the creek I went. I found the 2 hens near the creek edge and grabbed both of them and did the same trek through the brush and up the hill. J had managed to make it up the hill with the 5th bird and they all ended up back on the farm. We pushed their panting fat asses across the farm towards the coop and the water tubs.

My legs were disgusting, completely bloody and covered in scratches. I could taste bird and was covered in turkey as was J who also got shit on. He went right for the shower. It wasn't until later that I got to wash the turkey off me.

I went and checked after dark and they were all in the coop...

I went to get in to soak and my legs screamed in pain for a few minutes until the scratches mellowed.

Today I have to get boys to school, go up to the upper garden, install the new coop stepper controller when it arrives, pickup the co-op order early afternoon, PDC finals starts this morning, will get harvests done, keep working on cleanup, and then figure out something for dinner this evening.
