On the road before dawn yesterday I headed into town to get a load of grain. It wasn't a ton but i knew the birds and animals would be super happy for it.
This time there was another person "sleeping" on the sidewalk. At least they were on the other corner so my work didn't bother them. They had water next to them and moved a bit so I could tell they were alive. I can only think that they are in the area since the plasma place is a block away.
I got on the bypass to head home and the dawn was just lighting the sky.
I got the boys to school then on my way back into the farm I backed the trailer into the sheep pen and shoveled out the grain.
Then I got the call. R got himself in a heap of trouble at school and I had to go talk to the principal and then bring him home. Very out of character for him and a trend we are going to put an end to.
So back on the farm with him doing his school work in his room I headed out to work on the wood storage. I had this case that the greenhouse doors were in which I cut down to size to use as the floor for the cardboard section.
I was working on something when I saw this dark flash in my side vision and I looked over to see the Kestrel on the ground at the base of the fence and it quickly flew up and landed on the fence wit ha mouse in its claw. I was super stoked to see it so close.
It was rather chill as the dog went walking past it. It sat on the fence for about 30 seconds then took off and flew over the tool shed and out of view.
It had caught the mouse right there in the grass. I LOVE having the birds of prey around the farm!
I started on the east end and moved what little was on the pallet off so I could tip it up. I raked and swept off the weed barrier beneath, pushed all the debris behind the pallet, then fixed it in place against the posts.
The butchering supplies all have a dedicated place to live now, under cover.
PDC Swiss tourney is on and I got to watch Barney win quite easily. Good bit better form recently for him.
After some food I was back out and got the middle pallet cleared of the wood.
The pallet got tipped up, debris cleared, then the pallet fixed to the rear posts.
For the last pallet the rest of the wood pile had to be moved off of it. R came out and gave me a hand tossing all the wood to the other half of the cover.
We got it all moved which allowed me to lift the pallet and clean out beneath it before fixing it to the rear posts.
My middle bracing only needed a small section cut from one of the pallet boards to allow it to fit right.
With the back up I got the cardboard section built. I hauled in the pallet and got it fixed in place as the wall for the wood to stack against.
The middle bracing up I pulled the legs off a pallet and used it as the backer for the outdoor wood pile side.
The cardboard area has the floor, I stapled the geo-fence section to the posts really well for the side wall, then used a couple old Ron Paul signs for the back to keep moisture out better.
I now have a place for the axes, mauls, and wedges that is out of the weather but right where they will be used.
SO MUCH BETTER having all the cardboard loaded into the storage spot. This makes it much nicer and cleaner around the carport and in the house. It's right by the fire pit and the house and will get emptied once it is burn pile season.
Was throwing for a bit despite being sore. I stepped back to the oche, took a deep breath, and crammed the darts in the bull.
J got home from school and later while I had the fire going in the pit he busied himself stacking the wood. He didn't get it all done but a lot of it is stacked.
I grilled burgers for dinner while also working to move the stuff nearby.
The metal case is going away, the various wood stuffs will get moved to the cover, the small pit/grill is getting taken apart, and the whole yard cleaned up in general.
It really looks good in the light. Rustic, but solid and I only used 4 new boards for the whole thing.
Soaking was super nice on my quite sore body.
Chilly this morning and frost tomorrow night. Will get harvests done, move my grow light to the studio for he house plants for winter, we are going to the Taste Of Garlic festival at the Snow Valley Garlic Farm where I hope to buy 5 more varieties to grow, and I'm trying but not succeeding at getting the Heltec Lora V3 to load the NMMiner as it refuses to connect to the pool.

The wood shed looks very nice. It will be nicer to get wood out of than a stack some where.
I'm quite happy with how it has turned out and it will be light years better for stacking and for getting for the house. No more snow covered tarps dripping water on me or leaking on the wood.
