Cold Snap, PDC, Can Rack, Homage, Hospice, 3d Printing, Glycerin, Tracks, Flutes, Grilling - Friday

The start of our cold period was yesterday morning when it was 20F in the morning. It never got much warmer during the day thanks to the constant cloud cover once the freezing fog dissipated. I had a print going overnight but when I woke I found the ai camera had stopped it at some point so I got it restarted and it surprisingly finished the part off with no problems.

The printer was going all day long working on the can rack. It took a good bit longer thanks to all the extra stuff I threw on the plates with the parts.

The trees were caked with frost on the upper property and the farm had a layer of ice in many open areas.

The PDC was on and the surprise was Price destroying Littler with a tournament record 115 average.

The plates kept coming off the printer looking really good. I got 4 mouth pieces for the penny whistles printed and got them sounding good.

The cup fixes to the honeycomb wall and now hold the isopropyl spray can I use to clean the plates.

The plate that finished first thing had the parts for the Dummy K9 and Cat and I got the pair of black cats put together as a very small homage to our very frail and not long for the world 14 year old cat.

My last weeks have been spent as cat hospice and yesterday he was looking worse than ever.

I got the glycerin squeezed then the trash tossed over the hill. It left me with a healthy bowl full that I dealt with a bit later.

I had hoped to try and fill potholes on our road but the below freezing temps meant I couldn't do shit with the ground. On my way out to see I found raccoon tracks by the creek. They were heading to the creek tunnel which is one of their normal pathways.

So no pothole filling had me back in the house and I got the glycerin into jars for storage.

Bunting won the tournament and has been on a tear the past months.

The flute whistle bodies came out pretty good and got set aside for the boys once they got home from school.

I was rather stoked to figure this out. It's stupid simple but I like it a lot. The hsw shelf works with the hsw hook to hold the paper towel roll on the side of the printer. Slowly but surely I'm dialing in the machine and setup.

The boys got home from school in the afternoon and R was rather excited for the flute. Unfortunately Jax the dog is NOT very happy with them and his ears.

All day I kept checking in on the cat and loving on him and trying to keep him as comfortable as possible. Hospice care for animals is awful, it's got to be way worse with humans.

I'd found a fly fishing reel model in my roaming and decided to toss it on the plate. I'm rather happy with how it came out and the spool it printing right now in gray. Rather curious to see how it will all go together and work.

I had pulled steaks to thaw and then around dark went to get the fir going in the pit. I am DONE with this piece of shit pit. It's all well and good to have the fire in the main part but the moment I go and move the well burning wood into the grill area it goes out in an instant. The shit part is the temps are now below freezing and I can't rebuild it until the next thaw....

IMG_20250117_164721.jpg

It is a lot of pieces to build the can racks but I also ended up doing both the top and bottom pieces so it ended up twice the pieces.

Put on Beetlejuice 2 for the evening. It really is good that number 2 was never made before as I could very easily see it being a garbage movie. Keaton did the right thing in forcing the wait.

IMG_20250117_185203.jpg

So the useless fire pit and shit wood meant I had to kick on the Blackstone to grill the steaks. I was NOT very happy about it but at least they got cooked.

The can rack ended up being about a 1/4 inch too narrow so I had add on spacers but scaled them down to just a quarter inch wide. We will be able to put 2 double stacked side by side in the middle fridge shelf with a pair of single stack next to them for a total of 40 cans worth of storage on the shelf.

Got out to soak a bit later then watched an episode before heading to bed.

The last print for the day was the last part for the can rack. Just the rack alone is about a 6 hour print per top or bottom. So 12 hours of printing and about $4 in filament to make the double stack can rack.

I got the printer going first thing this morning with the rest of the parts for the fly reel and will keep it going all day with plenty more parts. I have to reprint the knob for the drag since I have to insert a nut in part way through printing so it can cover it over. Hospice care continues, it's below freezing for the next week at least, will be whipping the boys to clean their rooms, Kraken play this evening, and not sure what else I will do.
