Good morning from here, i wishing a happy and a lovely new month from my side of the globe. This is the continuation of my #homesteading and #hivegarden Journal, as i promised, this is still a section of my family garden, today we will journey down our pineapple garden.
pineapple is easy to plant, all need to do is locate the sucker and then a planting space, the sucker can be bought from the local market, have not yet had the experience of planting pineapple in containers so i don't know the possibility, my own is outdoor.
Here in my family garden, planting space is never an issue, Good enough my state governor has decided to make first and third Friday of every month a public holiday for all civil servants and Government workers to return to the farm, for farming activities, this is really giving me encouragement to explore more new garden experience, You can believe it.
I started the pineapple planting with just 10 suckers, it was given to me by an uncle, that first season, it was boring because i didn't know much about the plant, i had some expectations, not knowing that some may take even more that a year to produce fruit, i did not have more option than to stay through, now i can tell you that we have more than 50 suckers newly planted, even as we speak, some in few months will be due for harvest.
The garden is big, not yet fenced round, but we use the traditional fencing approach, we plant some green leafs and that serve as the fence and as well an economic tree.
if you observe, my plantings are done along the locally planted stick fence, but by next year am planning to have over a 100 suckers planted in a specific location of the garden, I don't intend to do this all by myself, the garden is gradually growing into a more commercial farm, and as well , am bringing in a few hands that will be working in my absence and also to relief my mum of the stress.
Please this are a few tips to planting your pineapple plant, for a successful and productive harvest. let your sucker be planted were it will have access to sun light, if you plant it under a tree, or were it is being shielded from the light sources, it productivity and growth level will diminish, it may be having very good green leafs but no fruits, Also like in my case were the garden is open to animal invasion, there is something that we do as soon as the fruits has began.
If you leave the fruit open without netting, this animals will feed on them while you are expecting them to grow and get mature for harvest.
so we use fishing net to net it round, with this net, the animals will not feed on them, thereby allowing them to stay till harvest.
By this month end, we will be expecting about 15 - 20 pineapple fruits harvest from this garden, as you can see the fruits are maturing already, with the sunlight experience that we have here, we will have to replant the new suckers by next month, because we don't allow any sucker to be wasted, we maximize then all, that why our pineapple plantation has grown from 10 suckers to over 50 that we have now.
This is my family pineapple garden, i hope to take you round the garden as we upgrade from a garden that feed the family to a garden good enough to feed the community, it has been an amazing experience, what i learn from here on a daily basis has been so instrumental to the growth of my family garden and I want to say thank you to the #homesteading community for the opportunity to share my #homesteading experience, your support has really been helpful and i want to say thanks you for all you do for me and my family, @emylight, we are indeed grateful
