The season is still here! The wind and snow has driven me back inside, so it's a good time for another post.
The grape hyacinths are beginning to show some color. I've begun planting these throughout the yard, like the daffodils. They help attract honeybees, smell great, and blend beautifully into the lawn when I start mowing.
These are the daffodils I've been waiting for. They bloom a couple weeks later, and haven't spread as fast as typical daffodils. These ones were also here when I moved into the house, hidden behind weeds and forest.
My other few hyacinths. There was another one with pink flowers, but I cut that one to bring the heavenly scent indoors.
Daffodils are remarkably hardy. While I was raking out my flower beds, I discovered about 30 bulbs left over from last year's massive redistribution, just laying on top of the ground. I spread them around the property, and a few have decided to bloom this year!
The next flower I'm really looking forward to is the lilac. I planted this one and its twin about 10 years ago, and it looks like I will finally have several blooms on both bushes.
I brought this forsythia as a twig from a large bush that my father was downsizing several years ago. Last year it had four flowers. This year it did a little better.
This patch of peonies we actually dug up and moved, but they still kept coming back! I have to get a cage around these ones quickly; the Rottweiler likes to sleep in this spot.
I brought these irises from my mother's house a few years ago. I have several lavender colored ones, these are supposed to be yellow and a mystery color. They have had a very slow start, because apparently this is a really comfortable seat for extremely large bullfrogs.
I finally got the camera out while it was still sunny enough to get a picture of the anemones while they are open.
As you can see, the leaves on this one really look a lot like the weeds growing to the left of the one in the previous picture.
We call this The Ring. I used to have a pool set up here, but the people who wanted it moved on, so this is getting slowly repurposed. The flowers all look so much better in the close ups... I really need to clean up this mess!
Speaking of cleaning up messes, back to work. Speaking of work, the next spring post will be back to food. Hope you've enjoyed!
