I thought that was it but my dad walked in again with a cardborad box full of more fruits and veggies. Green salad, all kinds of bell peppers, apples, carrots, parsley, pomegranate etc. The box is in our pantry and the lighting is not the best so I only took a few photos. Me and my family don't really mind if the fruits/veggies doesn't really look "perfect" on the outside and the parts that do go bad, we will just cut off and compost them.
My neighbor works at a big grocery store here in Serbia and every now and then he gets to take some of these fruits and veggies that would othervise go to waste! I am trying to wrap my head around the amount of food waste there is every single day. Imagining just one grocery store, then every grocery store in and around our city, then in the entire country, then in the entire Europe and finally, entire world! There's tons and tons - I cannot even imagine how big that pile would be if everything would be put on the same spot. And that's just food only!
Living on the countryside my entire life, always having a big backyard and garden where we grow some fruits and a lot of veggies, composting was always part of my life before I even knew what composting was. In our pantry, we have a medium size bowl where we put some food scraps and then every day we empty the waste to our compost spot. I know that living in the city doesn't give you many options when it comes to this, especially in countries that don't have the best (or any) solutions to recycling, taking better care of the environment and eventually food waste/composting.
I would love to hear how these things are handled where you live. Here in Serbia we still have a long way to go and I think that the biggest issue is the fact people are simply not conscious about the harm we do - I am not saying everyone has to behave perfectly, I am the first one who has a lot of space for improvement but even the most simple things like teaching the kids to put their trash into the trash can seems to be out of picture.
Anyway, I think we should all focus on ourselves first and let our actions inspire others. Criticism and judgement won't get us far. I don't post much about these topics because I always think people who do it better than me will judge me but I feel like I'm ready to share more of my (slow) journey. I wish you all a wonderful Sunday! :)
Thank you! :)
You are welcome!
