There are so many sweet spots to enjoy a good meal on the Peninsula of the Cape, but as we left home and headed for a seaside mall that would have salty sea views on an extremely windy Monday evening, we decided to just drive a couple minutes further down the road. Being indoors would just not do!
So we drove the 2 more minutes and got to Simon’s Town. We are lucky to have this little Town only 20 minutes from our own little village of Kommetjie. And boy was it a good idea! The harbour of Simon’s Town is in a perfect wind shadow that gave us the most stunning evening as the sunset over the mountain behind us.
Along with the rest of the world, our restaurants are struggling so there are deals to be had wherever you turn. But first, a walk down the pier for a view of the bay. The small fishing boats all moored to our left in the shade of a waterside building, with the yachts moored ahead along floating jetty’s. We couldn’t have caught more beautiful light as we admired the old naval town harbour.
Then, time for dinner and although Bertha’s has been around forever, we have never actually had a meal here! It was pretty quiet as we took a table on the outdoor patio with a gorgeous view. You really can’t have a bad view in this area, everything is beautiful.
The deals on the food were pretty awesome! I ended up with a sirloin steak and rice with extra veg and Grant got the seafood (I hate seafood, so it’s never on our dinner menu at home).
It’s sad that these amazing restaurants have to struggle, but I am so thankful for the beautiful evening that we got to enjoy. We promised the waiter that we would bring our kids along next time - they would definitely liven the place up.
If you ever get to Cape Town then make sure to stop in at Bertha’s in Simon’s Town. They serve most of the regulars - grills, seafood, salads, yummy looking desserts and beer on tap. The staff were friendly and lovely and I want to go back again real soon.
But most of all, take in the amazing sights and sounds of the harbour town. Take the time to look up at the historic buildings and walk along the high street. Or hire a sea bike or a canoe and go for a paddle. It’s all there for the taking waiting for you.
Happy Valentines Day my love...

Such a strange time. Here in the states it's and miss depending what state you're in. In a state like California, restaurants are closed permanently. Other states, some restaurants are struggling more than others, but here in Tennessee, it's business as usual.
South African restaurants are open but I guess folk are choosing to be safe (although I think it has more to do with the fact that so many people have lost jobs and are now scraping by) restaurants are a luxury these days.

You got my vote on this being a spectacular place to visit, but you forgot to photography Just Nuisance for me!
A town we visited on many occasions, my brother did some time in the navy there too, wondered around the Naval docks on special permission many years ago.
Lovely to visit this very special place on a great outing, by the way tell Grant I envy him with that fish platter lunch he had served to him 😄

Oh that’s amazing! And thank you! The next time we are there I will have to get a pick of Just Nuisance! He was just up the steps, but I didn’t go up to that car park. Next time for sure!!! The food was yum - disappeared very quickly.
Being out of late is a treat we are all like children exploring old haunts, always great to see them through the lens too. Have a wonderful day and thanks for sharing.
Lovely spot, Bertha's. So glad they're surviving!

I think it’s a struggle but I’ll do a FB post locally to help drum up some publicity for them too. Whatever we can do....
Wow! Thanks so much!
I absolutely LOVE that part of Simonstown. There is a restaurant on the upper level which we visited often... the name escapes me right now, but they used to serve the most gigantic and delicious plate of prawns!!!
LOVELY post hon!
Happy belated Valentines Day to both you and your man!
Hope you have a lekker Tuesday x

Thanks! Saveur is upstairs and then also Harbour house is in the building behind! Both awesome.
Yes Harbour house is fantastic... but still cannot think of the name.... it's a more casual little spot on the corner near the crafters.
Fran’s? Up by the carpark? There used to be another place but I think Fran’s is there now. Also did awesome scones.
