Wednesday Walk: skywalk around Siam Square,หน้าสยามสแควร์

in The LIFESTYLE LOUNGE4 years ago (edited)

This is my entry for #wednesdaywalk hosted by @tattoodjay. Yesterday I intended to do a survey of how the shopping malls around Siam Square were doing after the lockdown. After reading an article and talking to a friend about the sudden slowdown in all the shopping centers in town, I was very curious to see for myself. But I dropped by to see an old friend and our conversation dragged on for hours. So, I have to look at my stock of old photos taken before the spread of coronavirus to reminisce how lively the skywalk area around Siam Square used to be. Later I would do a contrasting report to reflect on changes.

This open area which links several skywalks and shortcuts into four shopping malls is situated between the two skytrain stations above the big crossroad. The whole area is known as Siam Square as this was the first shopping complex built in this area in the early 1970s. It became the hub of outdoor lifestyle since it was very close to the oldest university and many office buildings. Siam Square has been revived by new luxurious shopping malls: Siam Paragon, Siam Discovery and MBK shopping complex. Tourists would flock to this area for there are thousands of restaurants and shopping arcades including bowling and museum to attract their attention.

I would get off the skytrain station at Siam Square station, then walk across the skywalk towards MBK. On the sixth floor of MBK, there are amazing selections of fast food and restaurants including a nice supermarket where I would get freshly grounded coffee in the past. I have switched to Chinese tea during the years as it’s better for my health. I used to see tons of tourists taking photos of the traffic above the crossroads and selfies with those iconic models and buildings. The seating area was nicely decorated but there should be more seats for exhausted tourists.

I could not help taking photos of families and friends being together having a good time. These scenes reminded me of my childhood when the whole family was together having a good time; we used to go to the seaside and good restaurants every month. Now these were good old memories of my childhood. How time has changed everything! This taught me to be grateful for what I have at present and that I should try to make the best of everything. Buddhism teaches us that being born into human beings means we have karmic consequences so we would have to work out all these karmic accumulation, be mindful and live a righteous way.

It will be really interesting to see what the differences are (less tourists I imagine). Are there seasonal differences anyway?

I was thinking the same! I’ll be heading that way very soon. This week the traffic was quite bad as there are big ceremonies for graduation day at the biggest university in central Bangkok. I hope those new graduates could find some jobs!!

Thanks for the mention.

Oh wow!!! I absolutely LOVE those artistic "umbrellas" - what an awesome idea!!! !tip

Thank you so much for your kind comment and support. People were very creative in making the best use of the structures around the skywalk. I wish there were more plants around as well.

Hive Power Up Day - Introducing the Power Up Helper!

Thank you very much for the update.

wow, it looks pretty awesomeand it also looks a bit familiar too.

Is that the Huge shopping mall in Bangkok with the skywalk that runs in the middle of the road and if you cross over the skywalk you go to another huge mall.

I should did out my photos to see if it is the same....

Awesome, I love Thailand so much....
Thank you so much for showing me those photos!

Glad you recognise the place at the crossroad. MBK is where people shop for cheap souvenir.

Hope you could find to visit Bangkok again!

I actually found some of my photos of Thailand so I'll start posting them soon and maybe you'll recognise some of those places too!

I'll be back I LOVE Thailand and I LOVE Bangkok!

Glad to hear that you’ll be posting photos taken in Thailand. I do hope you could come to explore other places in Thailand in the near future.

Looking forwards to seeing your photos.

Oh yes definitely.

That is a plan that I've had for a while now.

I've been there twice so far- first time 2 weeks in Phuket, the second time- 4 days in Bkk, caught train to Hua Hin.

Spent 1 day there then headed up to Cha Am then up to Tambon Thamairuak, Amphoe Thayang, to volunteer at WFFT for 2 weeks here https://www.wfft.org/, then Hua Hin for a couple of days, then caught train to Chumphon, then bus across to Krabi, then baot to Koh Yoa Noi for 2 weeks, the boat to Phuket and flew out of phuket back to Melbourne.

What an amazing adventure but not long enough. I want to come over for 12 months and start up around Chang Mai/Chang Rai and mix in volunteering in animal sanctuaries with travel and keep going like that all the way south to Phuket again.

Soon I hope (well 2021/2022...2023...)

Great and interesting photos!
Interesting architecture.
It turned out to be a photo walk :-)

Hey! Where have you been?! On holiday?!

Hope your cats and plants are fine!!

Thank you for your interest!
Almost everything is fine with me now.
I fell from the last step of the stairs and hit my hands very hard.
My right arm was swollen and sore.
It was difficult for me to crop and reduce photos for the post with such a hand.
Therefore, I was not there.
I sometimes posted a post on Stееmit because they were ready.
Good days to you!

Oh! No! You hurt yourself! I thought you were on holiday.

Hope your hand is feeling much better now! Take it easy for a while!!

Thank you very much!
Yes, I'm much better now.
Only with a strong breath and when touched does it hurt under the rib on the right side.
I will wait a few more days and if it does not go away I will go to the hospital.
Hope it's just a muscle strain.
We now have a new coronavirus epidemic in our city.
And that's why I don't want to go to the hospital.
They are thinking to close our city, I hope that it will not come to that.

I think you will recover by staying at home!! No need to go to hospital!!

The 3rd photo looks like the driver is arguing with someone, lol. I thought the corona is over in Thailand as people not wearing masks on the photos. I usually see the photo first before reading. But realised it is before lockdown photos 😀

Hahaha! You are not easily fooled by my photos! You are very good at seeing an incident at the crossroad. Indeed, there was a minor accident between two cars. There was an argument and a police had to intervene in the dispute!

You’ve very good eyesight!! X-ray eyes! LoL

what cool shots

Thanks for joining Wednesday walk :)
