Thanks @jaynie, we've definitely got the Indian-African thing going on here, as well as the Dutch language history, although the Dutch spoken is different than the Dutch of the Netherlands, it's far from its own unique langauge like Afrikaans.

However, we do have Sranang Tongo, the patois of Suriname, which has more English roots than Dutch, so we also have an English-Dutch collision just like S. Africa.
