The spring rush - 4 orchids in bloom

This is a bit of a show-off post, but I can't help it.
A few days ago I was presenting you the first time blooming red orchid - Sophrolaeliocattleya Jewel Box 'Dark Waters'. I had to wait a few more days for another one to open more so that I could shoot them all together.

It doesn't happen often to have so many different ones in bloom in the same time.
Some orchids bloom only once a year in a specific season, other can bloom at any time as soon as a new growth matures. I am pretty sure this time next year the combination will be different too.

Here they are!

The big red one is still doing well. I read that Cattleya flowers do not last long. This one is open for over 2 weeks already and still looks great.

This little orange one is Procatavola Golden Peacock. This one can bloom few times a year. This time two canes were in bloom, both with two flowers. The other set of blooms is on the other side of the pot.

This is the one that was opening the flowers last. Some buds are still waiting to open.
Dendrobium Comet King Akatsuki is it's name and I haven seen a Dendrobium Nobile type with larger flowers yet. They do resemble those big and fluffy ones that Cattleyas can produce too.
Besides that damn lovely colour it also has a very nice fragrance.

Another Dendrobium Nobile - Dendrobium Nobile Kumiko Spring Dream also with very fragrant flowers, but smaller than the purple one. This is also my oldest orchid that is still alive and it is a damn beast! There is probably 15 canes in the pot at this point and many of them in bloom. I will have to repot it this year and remove the old ones. Probably will split it too to have it more manageable. It just gets too big.
But it is a very easy to grow and blooms like mad every year.

Both Dendrobiums bloom only once a year in late winter. They do need colder temperatures in late fall and winter to produce the buds. During the summer they just produce new canes that will bloom the next season.

This is one of the canes that fit in the shot.

Next up will be the miniature Pahalenopsis that finally decided to bloom and started to grow some nice flower spikes :) But that is still a few weeks to go.

Oh... What a super charm!!!!!!
Some of my orchids are just making buds :-)

see email

I am still waiting for Phalaenopsis to bloom. Not too many this year though.

I only have 10 of them left :-(

see email

The Orchids are truly stunning! That is one plant that I have never added to my houseplant collection. After seeing these gorgeous blooms I may have to learn how to manage them.

Thank you! You should definitely try with one :) They are not hard to keep after you get to know what they like and what can actually kill them. After that they can stay with you for years.

Oh they are so pretty, this is definetely a beauty competition: which orchid is the winner?

The red one! She totally stole the show this year :D

It is the first red orchid I ever see blooming, the red colour must be rare. I remember that the violet orchid is the rarest, if I am not mistaken

It is the first red I have too :) So happy with it!
I am not sure about the purple. I think it could depenad on the type. I know there are Vanda orchids that bloom purple.

But I do know that those almost black are very rare and only a few have flowers so dark. Look at this. I have been drooling for this one for a loooong time :p The care is not the easiest though and I would probably kill is very fast :D

These are beautiful orchids, it’s always such a delight seeing photographs of your gorgeous flowers❤️

Thank you! I like them too :)

Oh my, these orchids are bringing 100% spring vibes! And those colours are sooooooooooooooo positive :)))

Especially the little orange one, that is my favourite, sweet!

You can be proud of them 😇

I am super proud (especially that they are still alive)!
They all stand on my kitchen windowsill now look like a spring garden. So cool :)

The little orange one is one of my fav too. And the flowers last for weeks.

I imagine it is nice to have it in the kitchen window 😍

A secret to tell you, after seeing your post, I checked out my only orchid.

my reaction: 😩😩😩

I remember you were surprised I have it on the balcony, during the winter... pfffffffff, seems it doesn't like it anymore to be outside hahaha, it got one big leaf yellow with brown spots, and the stems with the buds and open flowers also stared to dry and be brown-yellow coloured.

I took it inside now 😞

Ops... Maybe it was too cold for it in winter... or too much rain.
It's Phalaenopsis? I don't remember.
The yellowing old leaves is normal. They will die eventually and grow new ones. Brown spots might be from sunburn.
Flower stems also die eventually.

I hope it is not rotting from the inside... then nothing can save it :(

Yes, it's a Phalaenopsis

To spoil your beautiful post with this not nice view:

I think it is not rotten inside ( well, I hope)

The roots look ok, I checked in the pot (the transparent one) and it seems ok. Also, the roots that are outside are ok, just that leaf and some of the buds and flowers in the stems where there are still good flowers are getting brown and black.
I hope it will get better now inside :)

It looks like sunburn to me. Was the sun reaching them there?
I wouldn't worry much then. They like bright light, but no direct sun, especially in Portugal or Spain. The leaf will fall off eventually and those buds too.

Now that you moved it inside all buds might die (blast). Don't worry about it either :) They do that sometimes when they are moved while forming buds. That's how they react when the conditions change.

How many flower spikes it has?

I took today more photos... and probably I will post them these days, I saw that not just that one leaf is affected 😱

and now the change is not making it any favour, too warm inside the living room.

hope the orchid lovers will not cry at the scene hahaha 😂

I also have bad luck with my orchids, I had 2...both of them went to a better world lol. Now I have a third. I hope it will survive..me lol. I just seem not to cater to them well. All of my other plants do so well. Only with orchids I had issues..

The third will be the lucky one :))

They are a bit sensitive, a lot more sensitive than the succulents, I just treated all of them in the same way :D

I have learned that they do not like excessive water and that the container should be quite small. Fingers crossed lol😅

No, no excessive water and the plastic transparent recipient works well.
now , my orchid is not the best example of surviving, I took today some more photos and will post them...

not the nicest view it will be 😒

Orchids are just so beautiful and elegant what a great display @ewkaw 👍

Thank you! I am enjoying it while it lasts :)

That's the way don't miss good opportunities 👍

My gosh you must be very excited with all of this blooming going on here. I just love your collection. Those tiny orange ones are so unique and tiny, yet they still have lots of cool details to admire. Just wonderful! I am really happy for you and am now wondering what the aroma of the one smells like... hmmm. I bet it smells lovely.

I am super excited! It is hard to get many of them to bloom in one time as some bloom just in specific season.

They smell a bit like lilacs... very floral but not sickening. It's really nice :)
