Perhaps I should start an orchid blog?

in Orchid Lovers β€’ 3 years ago
So I guess this is my first PeakD blog post! πŸ– I'm new to the community, just learned about it through researching the Hive blockchain, after starting to play Splinterlands.

I must say I was pretty intrigued about the blogging aspect. Not that I want to date myself, but I haven't blogged since the early days of Xanga... yikes! πŸ˜…

I'm have so many interests, I have(had?) no idea where I could get started again, maybe I'd post about my recent foray into cryptos, Splinterlands, and other blockchain games? Maybe I could blog about books, or knitting, or about how my kitty is the best kitty 😻 evah? Or about corsets, chainmail, scalemail, conventions and cosplay?

But I just remembered that I took some pictures this weekend of the incredibly fragrant and vibrant flowers that opened in my vanda basket on the balcony. Maybe they could be worth sharing with other orchid lovers?

What do you guys think, any interest in my still-young-but-rapidly(exponentially)-expanding orchid collection?

This is my vanda "community basket". I build it because I couldn't figure out where to put my 3 related vanda hybrids: Rhynchorides (Perreiraara) Bangkok Sunset, and 2 of its own hybrids, Perreiraara Rapeepath 'Pink' (Rhynchorides Bangkok Sunset x Vandachostylis Pine Rivers), and Perreiraara Tony Tan Keng Yam (Rhynchorides Bangkok Sunset x Vanda Wilas).

Turns out the Rhyn. Bangkok Sunset was misindentified though πŸ˜•, so I have 2 Perreiraara Rapeepath 'Pink' instead, and a bit less colour variation than I'd hoped for. But still, aren't they spectacular when in bloom? There's even a 4th flower spike starting, if you look closely at the plant at the front.

These spend all summer outside on our covered balcony, and in the fall and winter they are right near my brightest South window. These small vandas are really rewarding, they're still quite young, but they have been flowering several times a year, even initiating flower spikes in winter.

Too bad I can't share the scent, it's a sweet floral which is quite strong when the sun is out 🌺

Ok so I guess I got a bit wordy for my first post, oups! I'm looking forward to hearing what you guys think though 😊

Hello, @chaosgeek! This is @anggreklestari from @OCD team. We saw that you already posted your first post here in Hive! Congratulations and welcome! However, it would be awesome if you do an introduction post. As a sample of what an intro post is, you can refer to this intro post for reference:

Keeping Up With the Buzz - My Introduction to the Hive Community

There's no specific format on how you do your intro post, but there is some suggested content that we would love to see in your post. Information like who are you and where you're from, how did you discover Hive or who invited you, what types of content you want to see here and the types that you want to produce, and what are your expectations in this platform. There's no pressure on this. You can choose whatever information you would like to share.

You can tag me @anggreklestari on your intro post then if you have done with it.

Well, you can explore the communities that are suitable for your content. You can read some of the communities in this post: OCD Communities Incubation Program

If you are looking for tips and information as a Hive newbie, click here: newbie guide.

If you have questions, you can hop into OCD's Discord server and we'll gladly answer your questions. For now, @lovesniper will follow you and we are looking forward to your intro post!

Thank you for the tips I will definitely do that! :) Loving all the help and warm welcomes here, makes a girl feel very welcome :)

Ohhh I only saw this post now.
Please show the orchids! All of them :D
I don't have any Vandas - they are just too big for my space and I don't have where to hang them. The blooms on yours are stunning!
I have some Pals (who doesn't), dendrobiums, some Oncidium types and Cattleya hybrids.

Welcome to Hive! :D
Do not hesitate to ask if you have any question.

Thank you! These are my smaller vandas, and yes even these take up so much space! I have a bigger one which is growing 2 spikes right now for the first time in my care, I look forward to seeing it's blooms, and will be sure to post pictures! 😊

Oh my gosh! What a beautiful first post you have created on hive. Let me be one of the first to welcome you aboard 😁 I think you will fit in great anywhere, posting about anything. You really have a way with words and did a great job with this post.

If you give hive a chance I think you’ll really like the platform. Almost everyone I’ve run into is willing to help, and guide. It takes some time to get going and generate some hive power, but once you do I’ll be no stopping you! The added benefit is it will generate some extra hive to help with your splinterlands game.

If I can ever be of any help, please feel free to reach out and I’ll do my best to get you answers or find you someone who can answer those questions you might have. I wish you all the best here on your new journey 😊

Your orchids are absolutely amazing. @ewkaw will love these. Someday soon I will purchase A Vanda but for now I only have Phals. I have to say that basket is awesome! Really really awesome. Thank you for sharing your first post in the Orchid Lovers Community!!!

See you around the block chain!! 😎

Thank you so much for the very warm welcome! I do love the potential I see here on Hive, and I look forward to learning more how everything works, I'm still getting used to the interface and terms. But I love learning new things so it'll all work out πŸ˜„

It's so interesting because my path into orchid collecting has been the opposite to the usual, I was much into phals and started with neofinetia (vanda) falcata and brassavola... and just in the past year I've gotten into phals! I love the fragrant summer bloomers, they are so rewarding with their long-lasting sequential blooms.

I look forward to interacting more with the Orchid Lovers Community, and hopefully will be able to admire your own orchids (and perhaps a future vanda πŸ˜‰)!! πŸ˜ƒ

Your very welcome 😁 I keep flirting with the idea of picking up a Vanda, just for the aroma alone. I have my eyes out for just the right one. lol.

If I were you, I would write an introduction post and use the #INTRODUCEYOURSELF tag. This way you get some exposure and a few followers. If you make it about something weekend related, The Weekend Community run by @galenkp, is an awesome place to start meeting very communicative and friendly folks. LOT's of good stuff going on over there.

To help you out a bit with resource credits, and so you don't run out of posting, commenting, voting abilities so quickly, I am going to delegate a small amount of HP to you for a while. At least until you get your feet planted and your HP up to a good level.

Again.. I wish ya the best! I followed you so that I can keep up with your progress and catch your posts. Have a great day!! 😊

Thanks for the shoutout. πŸ˜‰

Yes sir! 😊

Wow thank you so much for the delegation and the tips! I'll make sure to follow them! I'll also do my best and not to procrastinate before writing the introduction post, I'm a bit more shy talking about myself vs. talking about subjects that I'm into, so this will be a bit of a challenge to push myself :) Thanks again for the help, and will definitely see you around! Have an awesome day as well πŸ˜ƒ

Oh No.... Gina didn't notify me about the tag and I completely missed :(
So nice to see another orchid lover, isn't it? :D

No worries. I always like seeing new faces and new flowers! 😍😁
