Thirtyfor30: Overcome toxic limiting money beliefs

As a kid, I felt we were rich. There was never a time in my life when I went hungry and that for me was being rich. My mother would usually drop off a sumptuous lunch, a few pieces of puso paired with a generous serving of breaded pork chop and catsup, and for my snacks, a slice of freshly-baked chiffon cake and a tetra pack of Zest-O. At times, she'd even buy one for my cousin who's attending the same public school. But as the years erroded my innocence, I realized how my parents (both never made it to high school) worked their asse off to give a life I thought was the normal.

In highschool, I never had to worry about money. As long as it's for school requirements, my mother's pocket never seemed to run dry. It was only when I transfered from the Province to the big, wild city for college that I realized "Oh! I don't have much in life, at least financially!"

The only way to finish college was to get into UP where education was free and with a grant, I received monthly allowance for food, books, etc. Although it seemed natural, I burned the midnight candle because I felt it was my only chance to succeed in life. I knew it was for my parents. I wanted them to be proud; I wanted to repay their sacrifice, their selflessness.

Today, I know exactly why they pushed me hard to study back then. It isn't for them really, it was for me. It's to have what they didn't have. It's to experience what they, out of scarcity, failed to give to me.

I wrote an entire blog explaining some common Filipino money limiting beliefs and how I overcame them before. Check it out in the link! :)
