Elon Musk tweeted that "If the people of Greenland want to be part of America, which I hope they do, they would be most welcome!"
So the big question is why the sudden interest in a land almost completely covered by ICE, are there any Economic benefits let's analyze.
First and foremost let's look at the location of the country. The country is located in the Arctic region which is quickly becoming a future economic frontier as rising temperatures are causing the melting of ice.
Which creates room for exploration and exploitation and also opens up The Northern Sea Route (NSR) which is the shortest shipping route between the western part of Eurasia and the Asia-Pacific region. Which can cut the cost of shipping between Asia and Europe by almost 40%.
Green land is located between North America and Europe So any country that controls Greenland has a strategic advantage over the NSR route and can have a major influence on global trade.
Secondly Green Land is rich in natural resources including minerals and uranium and future oil and Gas reserves which might be of great benefits to the United States. The map above represents little of the probability of what’s there, the only finds are on the coast, wait till the middle gets explored.
Another major aspect is when it comes to defence although the US already have significant military presence in Greenland but gaining full control of Greenland can enhance their military presence especially interfering and detecting missile attacks since Greenland is located between Europe and North America
Even Trump admitted that “America needs Greenland for national security purposes."
But where does this put Denmark Greenland is an autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark. Since 1867, the United States has made, several attempts to purchase Greenland from Denmark.
Denmark grants Greenland with $511 million annually which represents more than half of Green Land budget.
If America decides to buy Greenland or one way or another decides to control Greenland will Denmark agree what do you think.
