The basic principle of Ayurvedic medicine is to prevent and treat illness by maintaining balance between your body, mind and environment. Ayurvedic herbs are rarely used on their own, instead they are used as part of holistic approach to health which may involve nutrition, yoga, massage and meditation. Along with Ayurvedic herbs, practitioners frequently use therapeutic oils and spices to treat illness and promote well beings.
Ayurveda medicine is one of the world's holistic healing systems and was developed more than 3,000 years ago in India. It's main goal is to promote good health and not to fight diseases. But treatment may be geared towards specific health problems. It's important to discuss any Ayurvedic treatments that you use with your doctor. Women who are pregnant or nursing, or people who are thinking of using Ayurvedic therapy to treat a child should consult their health care provider.
There are different types of Ayurvedic herbs but I'm going to be mentioning just five:

CUMIN: This is made from the seeds of the
Cuminium Cyminum plant which are known for their distinctive earthly, nutty and spicy flavor. It boosts the activity of digestive enzymes and facilitate the release of the bile from the liver and speeding digestion.

TUMERIC: This is a spice that gives curry it's characteristics yellow color. It's main active compound has powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Tumeric also helps to protect against heart diseases in part by improving blood flow as effectively as exercise or certain pharmaceutical drugs.

BITTER MELON: It helps to lower blood sugar levels and promote the secretion on insulin, the hormone responsible for keeping blood sugar levels stable. If you use insulin to control your blood sugar level consult your health care provider before adding bitter melon to your daily routine to prevent blood sugar level from becoming dangerously low.
