RE: Two Ideas to Improve Hive - Extend Curation Window & Improve Censorship Resistance in Communities

in Hive Governancelast year (edited)

For those who might not be aware, this Hardfork altered the curation window to the first 24 hours. This means that, within this timeframe, all votes are equally efficient. Everyone earns 50% of their vote's value, provided the post doesn't receive downvotes and isn't rewarded with large votes after 24 hours. If someone votes after this period, the efficiency of their vote drops, potentially down to 30%, 20%, or even 15%, depending on the post's reward level at the time of the vote. This change has led to a significant increase in efficiency for those who vote promptly.

24 hours is indeed a short time to curate. Even 3.5 days are short. Sometimes (or often) people discover content much later after seven days after posting (after the post payout), so they cannot even curate it. So the post payout time is also short.

There have been talks about ever-green rewards, but those would require ads. Maybe in the future, there can be better solutions to monetize for longer periods of time.
