Is The Struggle Worth It?

For most people, one among many things that comes into their mind every morning is how to make money.

The truth is our world is governed by money, influence, power and wealth. With any of these in the life of an individual, we say a person is successful.

This is why everyone is either pursuing one or two of them because we all don't want to be tagged “a failure”. Money, wealth, influence and power, brings relevance, they command almost everything in this world.

There has been a lot of controversies over them, especially money. Some people believe that it can get to a point where it can become evil, harming both the person having it and others.

Others say, it is not, the substance is harmless but the person who owns it determines the outcome.

But everyone likes money, regardless of people's beliefs, we can't stop looking for it.

The answer to the question, why do we chase material things even though we know we will die and leave them is simple: because we need them.

In our world, we need material things to survive, for instance money, our daily survival depends on it. We need money to buy food, clothes, pay rents and settles bills.

If we say we won't look for money anymore because we would die and leave it here, trust me, we would die even faster than it is expected.

How about clothes, houses, cars and so on? some of these things are also basic, we need them for our day to day activities.

It's just how life is designed, I know it hurts the way we struggle to afford some of those things but that's just how our society programmed things.

Trust me, if one day, our society decides to start surviving on other things, people would also beat their bodies hard to afford them.

Because we would die one day and leave all these things behind shouldn't make us fold arms and refuse to get them.

Life doesn't just end with us, we have children, and loved ones, when we are no more they will appreciate us for making life easy for them to start with what we leave for them.

So, if you ask me if the struggle is worth it at the end of the day, I'll say “yes.” People misunderstand this issue of material things a lot.

There are people today who when they just hear “material things” their minds are already thinking about unnecessary things, some people even think it's a sin and they fold arms and say they are content with whatever they have.

I am not saying they don't know what they are doing but I feel they are getting it all wrong. There is a difference between riotous chase of material things and the accumulation of material things for future purposes.

The former is irrelevant and can soon make our lives miserable while the latter is necessary.

Truly, some people buy irrelevant things, they buy cars not for any thing but to show off, they buy houses just to prove that they have money, that's foolishness.

The kind of material things I am referring to is assets and not liabilities, things that stand the test of time and can bring returns one day.

For such, I think it is wisdom for everyone to try to get as much as they can. Forget that we would die some day. If we keep that in mind, we may end up limiting ourselves from growing.

Death is inevitable, but while we live, let us enjoy life in the best ways we can and acquire relevant things that can add value to our lives and offsprings.
