During the early weeks of the Russian military invasion of Ukraine, a photojournalist in the person of Maks Levin was discovered missing alongside a soldier who accompanied him.

Levin's disappearance and later death touched the entire world, peoples all over the world called for the investigation of the death of the Ukraine photojournalist. Both warring states were asked to investigate into Levin's death.

In more recent times, it has been discovered that the soldier that accomplished Levin was coldly executed. This and more will be our focus for today's post.

A Ukrainian photojournalist and a soldier who was accompanying him when they were killed in the first weeks of Russia’s invasion appear to have been “coldly executed”, Reporters Without Borders have said, after an investigation into their deaths.Source

After the death of the media man and the other soldier, several investigations have been made and one of the investigation team is the press freedom group. One of the outcomes of the investigation is that the soldier accompanying Levin was murdered in cold blood.

The press freedom group said it went back to the spot where the bodies of Maks Levin and serviceman Oleksiy Chernyshov were found April 1 in woods north of the capital, Kyiv. It counted 14 bullet holes in the burned hulk of their car still at the scene.Source

After discovering that the soldiers were missing, a several search teams were setup to look for the missing soldiers. After, a long search, they were found in the woods near Kyiv on April 1. According to the press freedom group about 14 bullets were discovered from the murder scene out of their burned car and this could be traced to the Russian military.

The group said disused Russian positions, one of them still bobby-trapped, were found close by. Also found were the remains of food rations, cigarette packets and other litter seemingly left by Russian soldiers. A jerrycan for gasoline was also found close to where Chernyshov’s burned body had been recovered, it said.
A Ukrainian team with metal detectors uncovered a bullet buried in the soil where Levin’s body had lain, it said. The group said that finding suggests “he was probably killed with one, perhaps two bullets fired at close range when he was already on the ground.”Source

With series of investigations about the death of these two soldiers, the main is can the investigators determine whether the killings amounts to war crimes and if it does, then the perpetrators should be brought to book.

I'm conclude by saying that Maks have been very useful to the war in Ukraine since the first Russian aggression in Crimea, 2014. His death alongside that of the soldier is a great lose to the media world.
