I remember a long time ago that when the s**t was really hitting the fan after Saddam was removed in Iraq and someone said "maybe this guy was such an asshole to his people because he had to be?" and that might be the case with Afghanistan as well.

As sad as it might be, unless you want to declare war on a country, it really isn't any of any other country's business how they treat their population. The USA has the death penalty and a lot of other countries think this is horrible.
