If I could create a new holiday, it would be called School Supply Shopping Day. This festival would take place every year, just before the start of a new school year. It would be a day dedicated to families to obtain everything their children would need for the upcoming school year without stress, pressure, or an outrageous price.
I know how difficult it is for families to pay for all the things that their kids need for school. Books, pencils, notebooks, uniforms, backpacks, even shoes to buy. For other families, it's a race to squeeze it all in. This day would be like a gift for those families—a special day when school supplies are sold at a much lower price. Big sales would have to be placed on stores so that every parent or guardian could afford what their child wanted.
It would be 'School Supply Shopping Day' and all the stores that sell school supplies would be decorated in bright colors and banners. You could sense it just walking around the streets. It would be a festival feel, with children and parents all around, selecting their goods with wide grins on their faces. Children could select new notebooks and crayons without parents worrying about the cost. Consider the expression on kids' faces when they get to choose a backpack they like or a notebook with their favorite hero on it! The stores would also give each student a free gift, like a set of colored pencils or a ruler.
Part of the experience of this holiday would be that bosses would have to give staff time off to take their children shopping. For many parents, it’s hard to balance work and family, and sometimes they miss out on special moments with their kids. But on School Supply Shopping Day, parents would have a break from work, so they could spend quality time with their children, helping them pick their supplies and preparing together for the new school year. This would make families feel closer and happier.
That's another reason why this holiday should come about because it would reduce stress. So every year parents are forced to go shopping before school begins. And some parents feel guilty if they can't give their child everything they want. It would be a very special holiday and it would relieve them of the stress of knowing they could afford the materials and that they could get it all done in one day. Teachers would be happy as well, because students would arrive with all the equipment necessary to learn.
And what if there were kid stuff too, story-time corners or something, or mini games they could play for more supplies. Even this day could feature special booths in which volunteers wrap up school supplies or write the names on notebooks, so that every item feels a little more personal to every kid.
School Supply Shopping Day would be more than just a day of shopping for supplies, it would be a day of generating enthusiasm for education, a day of bonding with the family, a day of community support. Parents and children would be happy together, it would be a day of celebration and preparation.
This would be a holiday that would make the start of school a much more pleasant experience for all kids, and they would enter the classroom ready to learn, with all the supplies they need and supported by their families and community.
This is my response to #novemberinleo prompt day 1 proposed by the #inleo community.
