What happened to Nigeria and india- the legendary lie I whole heartedly believed

in Hive Naija2 days ago (edited)

Writing this is one of the best thing happening to me at the moment, yeah lies are bad but whenever I remember this particular one it baffles me a lot,
Thanks to mods of this community because they have given an opportunity to air out this legendary lie that not only me grew up to hear and believe was true, but we all believed it.
Sometimes I wonder what was the intention of this ground breaking lie to the entire society, and to me personally, I have good questions to ask the creators of this great lie.
Whenever I remember how we used to talk about this particular conception which no one told us back then that it was a lie, we would talk about it in school, house, while playing, in the farm and almost everywhere I gather with my friends and colleagues.

However growth is a beautiful thing and not just growing but growing with knowledge and wisdom on basic knowledgeable things. You might be wondering which lie it could be but yeah I'm talking the football match between Nigeria and India
Guys this lie you see you up here took me some reviews and research to realize it was a whooping lie, but hey to be serious this a common deception in almost all Nigerian homes that was able to hit the ground running. Personally I would call this
The real G-O-A-T. Meaning the greatest of all time.
Now I want to talk about this and what actually happened.

HERE GOES THE LIES…
It was made to believe that Nigeria had a football match with India which we didn't know where it was particularly played, it was made to believe that the Nigerian players were unable to kick the ball because the ball kept turning into fire or lion and that the game ended with India scoring 99 while Nigeria scored 1 that's 99:1.
So because of how embarrassing and shameful it was the INDIANS later agreed that for NIGERIA to win the tournament they must concede a goal against Nigeria, so this popular player then Samuel okwaraji managed to score the goal which he lost his life in the process, that was the goal that made Nigeria won the match.
AFter the match FIFA banned India from playing soccer from playing football because the had use black magic to play football game.

However this story has thrive for a very long time, it formed when the was no access to the internet then, so imagine how everyone where deceived even my uncles told me this stories😅
Looking at some point they made from this lie the writer or teller was very intensional about it. This lie was able to thrive for a long time because.

No one has ever seen India in international football matches. So this gives was like a green card.

Sam Okwaraji was a Nigerian football player who lost his life during an international footbal qualifying game against Angola. 12 August 1989.. this incident occured not while playing with India neither were lions in the match. SAM died of a cognitive heart failure.
Coupled with some other points available point which I would say was misunderstood, by the elders then. India was never banned from playing soccer, not even because there refused to play barefooted, the last international football matche India played was in 1950, they qualified because their opponent withdrew from that game. But india also refuse to go for the tournament because of reasons known to them. Which one of it was travel expenses.
This is the lie I grew up to believe which took me time to undo, not only me but almost all Nigerian homes.

What do you think about this post.
Have you heard anything similar to this?
Did you believe?

Ah! So all I’ve been believing is a lie? That’s what I was told o. Since I was a child 😂

The funniest part is that almost all of our grandparent claimed to have attended the live event🤣🤣

Lol. I can remember this story very well. I found it so weird then but because of how everyone kept talking about it, I thought that it perhaps had an element of truth. I knew anyway that it couldn't be the full story. This one was one of those really crazy ones. I'm glad you could remember it.😂

Yeah it's still fresh In my memory, this story eh 😂😂 if you know, you know

You know, the interesting thing is that these stories made our childhood fun. I don’t remember the person who told me these stories, but I know that I totally believed them, even when I got to secondary school. The made-up match between Nigeria and India is one legendary fantasy, or better called, a myth, that everyone once believed.

I didn't know Sam died of cognitive heart failure.

Thanks for sharing.

Yeah bro, at actually made up our childhood days, I also believed it, the story created a massive impact
