Hello, everyone.
I welcome you to my blog. Childhood, they say, is one of the happiest days of one's life, one of the moments of life you never get to experience twice. As kids, so many of us really wanted to become grownups, mostly because of the freedom grownups enjoyed. Those days I see the grownups in my neighborhood come back home at whatever time they deem fit, and I really wanted that type of life for myself, but we were not told clearing of bills came with growing; if not, we would have wished to enjoy our childhood days a little longer before these trying days called adulthood.
One hard truth is that those things you are supposed to learn and do as children, once you grow past that stage, it is nearly impossible to get them done. Life is in stages; failure to do the things that come with a particular stage, the things that come with the next stage, will not give you the chance you need to do the things you missed or did not do in the previous stage.
No matter how much fun you feel you had during your childhood, when you come across some people, you will come to realize you did not really have fun, as the fun they had superseded yours way too much, and you will be left wishing for a second chance at childhood, so you will get involved in their type of fun and get the feeling that comes with it. Even as adults, there are people who would give up everything to be kids again, and there are some who don't even want that. We all grew up differently; some people enjoyed their childhood, and some people did not and will not want to go back to the pain and suffering.
Our childhood experiences are like a foundation for our lives; it takes a lot for people with bad childhood memories to come back from that. A bad childhood memory is like a scar one has to live with for the rest of their lives. This is why every parent and individual must try to give children a good life instead of scaring them for life. Currently there are many things I regret not doing as a child; some I even got the opportunity to do but I absconded, and now I am left wishing I had foresight. As kids, one mistake we make is thinking we know better than our parents or thinking we have more foresight than them because they are old. I made a mistake that still hunts me till now, all because I felt I knew better and wanted to enjoy my childhood more with friends.
While growing up, my parents enrolled me in a drumming course that was supposed to last 1 year, but then my friends were laughing
at me for that and teasing me, also reminding me of how much fun I tend to miss out on, and after about 4 months of learning, I absconded and stopped going for my lesson just so friends would stop laughing at me and making mockery of me, and instead of going for my drumming lessons, I followed them to play football. If only I continued, I probably would have been a professional drummer by now, and I have seen people who even make money from drumming, and now I wish I had followed up on my drumming course to the end.
We, children used to think we know better than our parents, so we deviate from the path they wanted for us, only to grow up and wish we never did but to enjoy those moments as kids. There are some memories I really wanted to play back so I could experience it again but you know, when the stage is gone, it can never return again. We only move to the next stage.
When that stage gone, it gone for good we just have to move to the next and only enjoy the memories in our head.
That's it.
Jeeeez!
What a miss!
Your parents saw that drumming thing very clear and you missed out. In African home, it's not all parents that can push their children to go and learn drumming.
Till today I still feel bad and kind of regret my actions and wishing for a second but they are hard to come by.
You are right, there are a whole lot of things we wished we enjoyed as children before adulthood sets in.
I also agree with that paying bills part, I really want to go back to being a child and not have to worry about paying for anything 😃😃😃.
Adulthood will limit your fun because as an adult You will need plenty of money to have fun and probably you want even have free time.
Oh heavens! When I think about the opportunities I missed as a child, my brain just can’t keep up. I was a very ignorant child lol. But I guess it’s because we are children
We all have some regrets as kids but like you said we were just being kids and hope not to make such mistakes again as adults.
