Hive Experience and Knowledge: One Leg up, One Leg Down.

in Hive Naija8 months ago

What I have learned about the Hive Platform.

You wonder why I used such a title as this? It is coming from an inspired mind, but I will tell you how I came about it. I met with an old, retired police officer who happened to be the security officer at one of the places I have worked in the past.

The day I got a job in the organization, I saluted him well while I was going to my place of work, and he was happy. On my way back, he was waiting to have a sweet discussion with me. I saluted him once again, and we greeted each other.

He said to me that the day that a hen enters a new compound or town, at the first instant, it keeps one leg down and the second leg up. I asked for the meaning because I was curious to learn.

The hen wants to observe, learn, and take note first before starting an adventure. "You should do that too," he advised. It takes observation and learning to know what is required of you in a certain place.

Can you imagine writing a post and adding just a single, but inappropriate tag on this platform. How will the post be curated? That will be like trying to jump out of the pool; it might not be easy.

There are a few things I did not know when I joined this platform; I did not apply the wise man's words of wisdom. I got distracted by the reward of the person that onboarded me, just like you are now.

It took me time to realize that people cannot follow you if you don't feed them good content regularly. I thought that followers would come by default. It does not happen like that, I found out at the end of the long run.

How do I want to explain that I follow more than a hundred and fifty and have fewer than twenty followers?

Don't make mistake about it; these are a few things you should watch out for as you journey through here.

Make sure you use the right tags. It might not matter at the early stage when you are just joining, but try because it will matter in the long run.
Join the community where you can learn and cope. I have posted in some communities, and a few of those posts ended up muted. The community is very important.

Let me say it in an easier way to understand: as a new user, don't jump after a big reward at the first instance. I made the same mistake, and it got me on a track where I did not want to be. At a point, I became indifferent; it doesn't matter anymore.

Take note of these; it might take a lot of time before you earn a big reward, but it does not take time to connect with users. That is one of the benefits that you derive when you have more followers, real readers, and people who comment on each of your post
That is a sign that you are growing.

Join communities and read their guidelines; you can leave if it has nothing to do with your niche. You might want to talk about traveling; you should join Pinmapple and not hivefood.

Use the right tags; you might not want to be blacklisted, I guess, so use the right tags

Do not edit post after publishing; I did that several times, but it did not end well. I promise you, don't do it; it won't end well.

You can read this post, for more.

Those are the experiences I gathered with my former account. This post is my entry for Hive Naija Weekly Prompts || Edition 30

I'll add just this to what you just said about your followers. Just know it's a gradual process , but you have a crucial role to play.

Have a niche. I can't follow you if you post about just anything and everything. Let people know you for something. Maybe you make shoes and I love how you do it. For me to see your posts regularly I'll have to follow you.
And also interacting with others , and creating quality contents, helps you gain followers.

I hope this tip helps 🫶

thank you for the explanation @meyateingi I can see myself getting better by following it.
