DO PARENTS KNOW BEST ; GUIDING OR OVERSTEPPING IN CAREER DECISIONS.

Are parents allowed to decide our career paths and/or choices?
Do they really know best?

I won't lie oohhh!! Neither will I pretend... My answer is NO AND NO parents are not allowed to choose career for any child but a lot of parents forget that... They think they are doing it for their children not knowing it is for themselves.

In campus, you will hear how a university student will be like "this school I am going to is because of my parents, when they're done they will go for what that like" it's wrong, it doesn't helps the child, infact that is total waste of money....
Why don't you allow the child to choose whatever he/she wants to do... That way he can have full interest in it...

A lot of parents are also deceive by hearing professional courses... Like **law, engineering, pilot, medicine and surgery, survey, mass communication etc....
Most parents feel it is based on professional courses that their children take up that will determine their future... And by so doing, they will pushed their children to go for the career they don't like....

A child will be like, I love drawing, I want to study fine art in school and you will hear the parents be like * no child of mine will draw in my house, what will I tell my friends, after all the school fees* it doesn't speak well....
Some will even forced the children to go into a particular career because their friends children are doing so, they will turn your career into a form of competition... And it's wrong...

As a parent, your duty is to support your children's career, advice them, let them know what they have to know about what they are going into..
I so much always thank my dad because he had never stopped me from achieving that particular career I have always wanted....
At some point sef, I was almost deviating from what I have always loved and my dad knew I was getting a lot of peer pressure from school that's why I wanted to change my course....

In my ss3 when we were asked about our career I was the only person that said I want to become a teacher but not an ordinary teacher.... My classmates laughed at me, I was so ashamed.... A lot of my classmates were mentioning law, accounting, medicine and surgery, mass communication and every other professional courses....

When I came home, I started saying I want to do my ... My dad was like what about being a teacher, I narrated what happened and my dad said Nne, you have always wanted to be a teacher, I know you will be great, I know you will shine, go for what will make you happy he supported me and instead of telling me *yes, it's true na, your mates are going into professional courses,, what will I tell the public that my daughter is doing....

So, it's not advisable for parents to choose the career of their children, it will only end up damaging them and making them lose focus and passion most especially... They won't even be happy attending classes or doing anything because that's not what they want....

Parents should please, leave us to decide what we want... Stop deciding our career for us... In this generation now, nobody is a child anymore that you can impose career for them... We know our right, what makes us happy professional or not professional, we love what we love.
