A GOOD MEASURE

There are so many quotes in our today’s world that most people get inspiration from to keep being the better version of themselves and also to keep pushing forward. Personally I have heard a lot of quotes from so many people, movies and even music. From all the quotes I have had the privilege of knowing, there is this particular one that always stands out for me and it is a quote from the Bible which says ”Do unto others as you would want others to do to you”.

This quote is one that is very common but part of the least practiced quotes because it is not an easy one. Most times, we forget that it is important that we treat others the way we want others to treat us. For some people, especially those that always wish others evil, they forget that even as they do so, others will also tend to wish them evil too. To make us understand this better, I’d tell us of a story of a man that was spoken of in the Bible. His name was Haman, he was a big man at that time as he was the King’s special adviser.

This man had a grudge against a man because the man was from a different place. But at some point, this man the King adviser hated was able to save the king from some men who had sought to kill him. When the king adviser heard what he did, instead of him to reward him by at least telling the king, he refused to do so because he didn’t want the man to gain favor in the King’s eyes. But then, he did mention it in the book of records.

One day, the king couldn’t fall asleep so he ordered that the book of records be brought to him. When he went through the records, he discovered that a stranger had saved him and he felt sad that he didn’t knew about it and he immediately called his special adviser Haman and he asked him a question which says, if someone was to save the King’s life what reward should that person receive?. Immediately Haman heard this question, he thought that he was the one so he mentioned the best of things to be done to the person who saved the king’s life.

Immediately he was done listing all the things the king should give to someone who saved his life, the king asked him to do all of the things he mentioned to the man he hated the most. He became furious but then he still hard to listen to the King’s orders. So Haman had no other option but to treat his enemy as a king. Because of that, he hated the man even more.

Based on this short story, you could see why it is important to always wish others well because we don’t know what the morrow holds. If only Haman knew that the reward for saving the king’s life was for his enemy, I’m sure he would not have mentioned that the person should be treated like a king but too bad for him, he thought of only himself and he ended up elevating his enemy even more than he would have gotten.

Wishing others good is also a way of wishing ourselves good too, so when we also wish people bad, that might also be our own case. So this quote is always a watch phrase for me, Do unto others as you wish others should do to you. We should always gain pleasure in wishing and helping others to be the best because that might also be for your own good in the end. But if it is in the opposite, it might be ourselves that might also suffer the effects because that will make us vulnerable to others wishing us harm too.

I agree with you, we should always learn to wish other well even though we aren’t comfortable with what is going on around us, this is one of the best way to attract good people around

This quote, I have always live my life on it ,my friends do ask me why I get angry so quickly and I told them I got angry because if I were in their shoes I would never do such, I don't do to others what I can't accept.

Hmm, that’s actually another angle to look at things from. Sometimes we do to people what we don’t want them to do to us and that is not nice at all.

Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts 😊
