MAKING LIFE CHOICES

Parental decision in the career paths of their children can happen because they are the guardians meant to lead the children in the right direction, truly they can influence the choice of a child on what he or she wants to become in life based on their experiences but it is left for the child to decide on his or her own, their career choice. Although there are parents who forces career paths on their children just because they own businesses or companies, to uphold their legacies, they force or impose it on their children. This is very common amongst wealthy people, who own conglomerates, they tend to decide the path the child should take. This is why many graduates end up studying what they have no interest in.

As a parent, your duty is to guide a child in the right direction, it’s essential to Note that in this present age, we need to take into consideration the child's interests, skills, talents and passion. For instance, a child that likes to paint or draw should be guided in the direction of art studies, where he would be able to study and have in depth knowledge of what it entails. At the end of the study, This would even put the individual on an international level.

Career choices should reflect a person's own aspirations, so as not to regret in the future and point accusing fingers to certain people. While some parents succeeded in setting a bright path for their children in their education, it did not entirely work out with others. Currently I have a colleague who had her first degree in English studies and a masters degree in English language. when she had the opportunity to travel abroad and be independent of herself, she took a course in engineering and right now she is prospering in that field.

The "had I know" in our society these days is too much because people regret their choices made in the university, seeing it as a waste of 4 years of study. Influence or no influence too, the government is not making it easy for youth to find jobs in various adequate parastals, it's either positions that are meant for the qualified or those that actually studied the course is sabotaged by the rich and wealthy or corruption has taken over. People now go out to seek professional courses that would help them get good positions in companies.

It's okay for parents to advice their child on their life choices and it's okay for the child to accept or disregard it.
