SWEET CHIMING BELLS

I actually never had a favorite Christmas song until a few days ago, when I got to choose one thanks to Afritunes and her Afri-inleo weekly prompt. The topic of the week on Afritunes-inleo initiate was "what is your favorite Christmas song". Given that I never had one, I quickly had to pick one. It is not really the case that I picked one, it is probably more appropriate to consider it a discovery. I only got to discover that the song "Sweet Chiming Bells" has been my favorite all these while.

I am a very simple guy who love music. It is probably the case that I am biased given my love for music, but I am of the opinion that a Christmas without music is an incomplete one. It could also be the case that my opinion is influenced by the fact that I have always had encounter with music during Christmas. Right from my teenage age, I have always been in the choir. That caused me to have encountered so many traditional Christmas song. I have as a matter fact enjoyed the musical Christmas and I cannot imagine a Christmas void of music.

My recently discovered favorite Christmas music is the song "Sweet Chiming Bells". The lyrics of that beautiful song is said to have dated back to 1700. While the exact date of it's composition is not really known, the song itself is attributed to Nahum Tate.

WHAT I LOVE MOST ABOUT THE SONG

There are so many things to love about the song "Sweet Chiming Bells". It will in fact not be out of place to love everything about the song as it is in my case. My first encounter with the song was with my parish choir. Though I was still a newbie but the fact that tenor singers have to chant sweet bell over and over again at some point in the song made me fell completely in love with it. I think that very fact for some reason still contribute to my love for the song. Many thing would have contributed to that but the fact that I am a tenor singer is certainly one of it.

Another reason to love the song "Sweet Chiming Bells" is it's lyrics. The song has no doubt got amazing lyrics. Given the nature of the season, many who celebrate it tend to pay no attention to the messages that comes along. Songs like Sweet Chiming Bells are capable of bringing to mind the message that is being embedded in the season. It is the case that every single lyrics of that amazing song have something to say about the reason for the birth of the messiah. In all though, I must also appreciate the fact that there are also amazing songs like Sweet Chiming Bells. Songs that carries the true message of Christmas.

Christmas is probably the most amazing season that there is. This is evidenced in the fact that it is the most celebrated season. Notwithstanding how amazing the season is, a Christmas without music is for me an incomplete one. Untill recently, I have never had a Christmas song that I refer to as my favorite. All thanks to Afri-inleo initiative, it made discover my favorite.
