One can't be a judge of herself

Good day, amazing people of hive block. Welcome back to my blog. This is another edition of the #hivenaija community. I am so delighted to be participating in this week's prompt. Topic: What’s that one you didn’t know about yourself till someone told you about it? Whether it’s a physical feature or a character trait.

When it comes to our physical features and character, we can’t really give a good account of ourselves. When it comes to that, it is the people we meet on a daily basis that will say how good or how bad our character is. There are so many characters that we display to us that are good, but it is people within us that will give an account of such characters. Those feedbacks or remarks from those people will help us to know if our character is really saying a good thing about it and will enable us to understand ourselves better. Of course you should not expect the remark to be nice; the truth the saying is bitter. You should always try your best to learn from those remarks with an open heart, which will help you to become a better person. For someone to tell you the bitter truth about yourself that allows means the person loves and cherishes you and wants the best for you. My mom will always tell me that it is only someone who loves you that will tell you when you are not getting it right.

There is this character trait. I never knew I had—who knows how long my friends have been enduring this bad character of mine before they were able to voice it out. I never knew that I was ruder, especially when I am angry and talk to them as if I were their mom.

The very day they told me about this, I was so bitter that I felt bad that I had not really been good to my friends and that it was because of my rude character that they distanced themselves from me. For especially when I am angry, I am always so rude to them. I was so pained when they told me about it. It was one of my friends that told me about it, and the rest of my friends didn’t even tell me how rude I had been to them. Immediately she told me this: I put myself in my friends shoes if I am the one who will be able to friend with someone who is rude.

If I say it didn’t hurt, I am lying. It really hurt me a lot. I am so happy that my friend was able to tell me that character trait for me. I am prefect. I never knew I had this character trait. Truth be told, one can’t be a judge of ourselves. It is important when selecting your friends to look for people who will always tell you the truth and also be honest with you.

We need that friend who can always tell us the truth, no matter how bitter it may be.
