Fernando Amorsolo is known for his genre paintings. His favorite subject was the dalagang filipina—shown bathing, washing clothes, engaged in daily chores, or finely dressed in baro't saya for going to church. Amorsolo became the first national artist in the Philippines and was recognized as the "Grand Old Man of Philippine Art." His artworks are timeless masterpieces that I had been lucky to see with my eyes in the National Museum of Fine Arts. They are a million times more mesmerizing in person than in photos. In Lavanderas, he has once again masterfully captured the spirit of rural Filipino life with remarkable realism and warmth. He painted women washing clothes during the day, showcasing his skill in portraying light and vibrant colors. Amorsolo never fails to showcase Filipino culture, landscapes, and everyday moments, making him one of the Philippines' most cherished artists. He, indeed, was the first to do it. Bask in the beauty of Amorsolo's art—a Pinoy pride.
