Solos weekly picks: Pollinators

in Palnet4 years ago

Plants and bugs share a mutual relationship, the insects get to collect resources such as pollen and or nectar from the flowers. And the plant gets its genetics spread across long distances. And sometimes when things are just right the insects will help fruit to form through successful pollination. I have always enjoyed seeing these little bugs feeding on flowers, but more and more I appreciate the hard work they do. And glad the flowers give the insects a source of food.

I enjoy watching pollinators so much I decided to make a community focusing on them. The Pollen Flow was created for posts on bees and other insects that help plants reproduce.

Here are five Hive minnows showing off pollinators around where they live:

A few bees by @corvidae

Some bees are feeding on purple and pink flowers, looks like a honey bee and a bumble bee. The poster talks about how they have been stung by honey bees in the past but not a bumblebee just yet.

Even the bees in san diego are finding shelter from 5G by making hives ... by @ackza

A short post but to the point, it appears some bees have moved into an underground utility hole, unsure of why they did this but the author thinks its due to 5G. I do not know but just interesting seeing them use such a place for a home. Glad the utility worker put a sign on it and they are trying to let them be for now.

Went on a hike yesterday and photographed some insects. The birds are ... by @funferall

While out on a bike ride this poster took a break and found a bee feeding on a flower. You can see its pollen baskets are full, those white things on its legs. That is how they move pollen from flowers back to their hives. Honey bees have theses and some bumble bees, but my mason bees are lacking such an organ so instead they cover their bottom abdomen in pollen.

Moth-based insect butterfly ! by @tinta-tertuang

https://peakd.com/hive-173511/@tinta-tertuang/moth-based-insect-butterfly

When most of us think pollinators we think bees, though they are just one of many types of insects that visit flowers. A moth can also do this, and I have seen them feeding on my sweet potato flowers. In this post we see a capture of a moth wandering around on a leaf.

ดอกของต้นฟักเขียวและผึ้งที่ผสมพันธุ์เกสร by @kriang3tee

https://peakd.com/thai/@kriang3tee/qudu31

In this post we see pictures of bees feeding on some large flowers, the poster talks about how these bees help the flowers to produce fruit when a bee visits a male and female flower. They also talk about how they like to see butterflies visiting the flowers as well because they pollinate. But sometimes the butterflies are destructive because of their larva form eating the plants before turning into its final form as a butterfly.

Thats my five picks for this week, come back next week to see Solo's next weekly picks. I curate posts every Tuesday and do this through MSP. Thanks so much to the Minnow Support Group for giving me the opportunity to serve as a curator!

Sent them all some votes.

I am sure they all appreciate it.

Could be worth giving people a share of the rewards on posts like this. I do that with some of my Follow Friday posts.

Minnowsupport gives them a upvote trail on the posts I curate. And I give them a 100% upvote as well.

I could add them as beneficiaries too like you said though.

thank you @solominer for the mention and the awesome curation!

Ah glad to curate your posts, thanks for posting about the bees.
