The Pros And Cons I've Encountered Blogging On These Plarforms

in Palnet3 years ago

In 2017, I joined Steemit.com due to unemployment. I struggled to find a job that was accessible for me. I talk about my employment struggles in my blog post. I will link some blog posts where I talk about it
issues autistic people have with employment
how autism limits my ability to work a traditional job

why I cannot handle a traditional 9-5 job

Some remastered videos for VEDA will also be up explaining these things or I will remake some that I recall making but deleted.

Later on, I found other blogging platforms because only using Steemit would be just like being on YT and only using that platform and not branching out.
I believe in not using one platform. Back in late 2016, I found a good YT competitor called Vid.me. I didn't quit YT for that site bc I was not sure how well they will perform. A year later they shut down. That's why it's important to branch out

I've noticed some pros and cons on these sites as I used them.

The pros are:

  • You can post what you like with no censorship unlike on Youtube.
  • You can make money doing what you love with no requirements like YT. It's not a get-rich-quick scheme. Its gonna take time and patience
  • You can build a community here.
  • You could learn some new things.

The cons are

  • Your earnings fluctuate. At times when I really needed the extra cash, my earnings dropped. It's important you have a plan in place when this happens. This is why I also promote my editing services. Only relying on rewards would be like on YT only depending on Adsense. Review some products and link affiliate links for example. I suggest using your own blog. Most programs will deny you for not having your own website/blog.

  • Outages. Those come without warnings. Or there could be one but you may not see it in time. Never depend on only hive or only Blurt or any other blogging site. have at least 3 blog sites. If some go down you have another

  • downvote abuse. On steemit, when I did nothing wrong, someone mass downvoted my posts using bots. If I did something wrong without knowing it, no one communicated to me to let me know. If you don't tell me, I won't know.
  • coin price fluctuates. The price of Hive or HBD will fluctuate. That affects how much you'd get in USD. On Steemit, since April instead of getting SBD and SP, I got Steem and SP which caused me to struggle since the Steem price is way lower than SBD

There are probably a lot of pros and cons I cannot think about right off the bat. it's important to know these things so you can prepare. I have to take time to map out a plan to compensate. Especially with school starting back earlier than normal which could affect your posts' performance.

I will start mapping out plans for when drops happen. That's the flip side of being your own boss.
