🇪🇸 ~ A lo largo de los últimos 5 años vi un cambio significativo en la manera que las personas con proyectos personales se relacionan con el recurso humano que quieren en sus empresas, hablando del equilibrio entre lo que esperan recibir y lo que ofrecen a cambio de que el talento ponga a su servicio su potencial creativo y de realización.
🇺🇸 ~ Over the last five years, I have seen a significant change in the way people with personal projects relate to the human resources they want in their companies, in terms of the balance between what they expect to receive and what they offer in exchange for talent putting their creative and fulfillment potential at their service.
La captación de personas sobresalientes ya no va de la mano precisamente con el pleno reconocimiento de su valor, en su lugar ahora hay un despliegue teatral, una compleja estrategia de manipulación que va desde el primer contacto con un "esto es algo increíble de lo que no te puedes perder formar parte" o si sabes leer inquisitivamente, es un solapado "deberías sentirte afortunado por esta oferta que obviamente aceptaras, sin retribución porque considerarte opción ya es retribución sobrada".
Recruiting outstanding individuals no longer goes hand in hand with fully recognizing their value. Instead, there is now a theatrical display, a complex strategy of manipulation that begins with the first contact with a "this is something incredible that you can't miss out on being a part of“ or, if you read between the lines, a sneaky ”you should feel lucky for this offer that you will obviously accept, without compensation because considering you an option is already more than enough compensation."
Y así, en el momento en que el talento hace valer su tiempo con una natural (y lógica) contraoferta, pierde su valor, en la lógica de estos "nuevos empresarios" donde eres valioso siempre y cuando le regales el oro de tu tiempo, talento, y yendo más allá, tu compromiso sin fecha de caducidad y exclusividad (han sido 5 años muy largos amigos, he visto tantas cosas).
And so, the moment talent asserts its worth with a natural (and logical) counteroffer, it loses its value in the logic of these “new entrepreneurs,” where you are valuable as long as you give them the gold of your time, talent, and, going even further, your commitment with no expiration date and exclusivity (it's been five very long years, my friends; I've seen so many things).
✦ There's a lot of audacity out there lately ✦
Todos tienen proyectos importantes (dicen), pero no todos tienen lo necesario para ser capitanes de esos barcos. ¿Por qué?, en pleno siglo 21 reformular una propuesta de trabajo fraudulenta o desarrollar activamente estrategias para conseguir que personas trabajen gratuitamente para ti a partir de medidas maquiavélicas (como tratar de convencer a un joven de que su trabajo es lo suficientemente especial para "pertenecer" a X proyecto pero no lo suficiente para merecer un pago digno por ello) te hace un incompetente... y quizá también un chantajeador-manipulador emocional.
Everyone has important projects (they say), but not everyone has what it takes to be the captain of those ships. Why? In the 21st century, reformulating a fraudulent job proposal or actively developing strategies to get people to work for you for free using Machiavellian measures (such as trying to convince a young person that their work is special enough to “belong” to X project but not special enough to deserve decent pay for it) makes you incompetent... and perhaps also an emotional blackmailer and manipulator.
Inevitablemente el talento avispado o con trayectoria por tema de oficio y data sabrá identificar las red flag y sorteara elegantemente estos intentos de fraude; pero la historia no termina allí, porque es entonces cuando ocurre un segundo fenómeno, que es la búsqueda de captación del talento en circunstancias vulnerables.
Inevitably, talented individuals who are savvy or experienced in their field will be able to identify the red flags and elegantly sidestep these attempts at fraud; but the story does not end there, because that is when a second phenomenon occurs, which is the search for talent in vulnerable circumstances.
También puede acontecer esta variante, un segundo fenómeno que consiste en la captación aquí y allá de información con substancia que empaquetaran para ayudar a personas que sí se prestan a esas extrañas filiaciones "laborales", para aparentar sapiencia y cultura que nunca han tenido. Porque en este presente hiperconectado funciona la formula de aparentar, aunque no seas.
This variant can also occur, a second phenomenon that consists of gathering bits and pieces of substantial information here and there, which they then package up to help people who do lend themselves to these strange “work” affiliations, in order to feign wisdom and culture that they have never had. Because in this hyperconnected present, the formula of pretending works, even if you are not.
Entonces todos tienen proyectos importantes con sus fenómenos particulares, ¿es algo extraño hoy?, no. Una amiga muy querida diría "es simplemente la vida siendo la vida", o "¿para qué pelear con la estandarización de las malas practicas y ganarte enemigos hasta el final de los tiempos?", porque el rencor de un estafador al ser expuesto dura más que rencilla por los terrenos del abuelo amigos.
So everyone has important projects with their own particular phenomena. Is that strange today? No. A dear friend of mine would say, “It's just life being life,” or “Why fight against the standardization of bad practices and make enemies until the end of time?” Because the resentment of a swindler when exposed lasts longer than a quarrel over grandpa's land, my friends.

Hoy reflexiono sobre la importancia de jamás permitir que otros te hagan dudar sobre el valor de tu tiempo/talento, incluso el peso de tu nombre, porque hasta eso (especialmente eso) es un recurso cotizadísimo con potencial de alto valor, sobre todo si eres sinónimo de buenos principios o de calidad (con extra de importancia si tu rubro o ambientes en los que te desempeñas son pequeños o ultra específicos).
Today, I reflect on the importance of never allowing others to make you doubt the value of your time/talent, or even the weight of your name, because even that (especially that) is a highly valued resource with high potential value, especially if you are synonymous with good principles or quality (with extra importance if your field or environment is small or ultra-specific).
Todos tienen "proyectos importantes" pero si recibes una propuesta que indica todo lo que necesitan de ti sin adjuntar lo que ofrecen a cambio, es una mala señal, también es mala señal cuando todo comience con un discurso de convencimiento que omita data importante.
Everyone has “important projects,” but if you receive a proposal that lists everything they need from you without mentioning what they offer in return, that's a bad sign. It's also a bad sign when everything starts with a persuasive speech that omits important information.
No te sientas mal por decir un cordial "no gracias" cuando veas señales de peligro, no eres una mala persona por eso, o un mal artista por preocuparte por tu seguridad; recuerda también que nadie puede imponerte privarte de trabajar con otros proyectos y empresas "porque te consideran de la familia y cuentan contigo", pon especial atención a frases clave que no tienen que ver con el contexto de las situaciones (familia-trabajo).
Don't feel bad about saying a cordial “no thanks” when you see signs of danger. You're not a bad person for doing so, nor are you a bad artist for caring about your safety. Remember, too, that no one can force you to give up working on other projects and with other companies “because they consider you family and count on you.” Pay special attention to key phrases that have nothing to do with the context of the situation (family-work).
Y del otro lado, hey, no creo que esté mal que quieras captar talento para tu proyecto, que preguntes por un acuerdo de pago en cuotas por ejemplo si tu presupuesto es un tema, hasta se vale la propuesta de un intercambio, pero molestarte con el programador que te envía cotización de lo que solicitas o molestarte con el artista de pixelart que no te deja gratis las comisiones, es como molestarte por entrar a una boutique porque a la salida no te dejen llevarte las cosas sin pagar.
On the other hand, hey, I don't think it's wrong to want to attract talent to your project, to ask for a payment plan if your budget is an issue, or even to propose an exchange. But getting upset with the programmer who sends you a quote for what you request, or getting upset with the pixel artist who won't give you commissions for free, is like getting upset for going into a boutique because they won't let you take things without paying when you leave.
Si tu mente te dice que todo aquel que no este dispuesto a regalarte su trabajo es un villano, o tu enemigo, temo decirte que no solo no estas capacitado para llevar sanamente una empresa sino también que necesitas ayuda profesional porque como gestor eso de minimizar el valor de algo valioso para hacerlo accesible para ti, no es muy saludable que digamos.
If your mind tells you that anyone who is not willing to give you their work for free is a villain, or your enemy, I'm afraid to say that not only are you not capable of running a business in a healthy way, but you also need professional help because, as a manager, minimizing the value of something valuable in order to make it accessible to you is not very healthy, to say the least.
Y eso sería todo. Es mi deseo para 2026 que todos mis amigos y compañeros creativos, artistas y creadores sean dueños plenos, libres y seguros del valor de su tiempo y su arte, que todos podamos sobreponernos con buena actitud frente a los nuevos retos que ha traído esta época pos-pandemia, de la memoria corta y la urgencia por surgir aunque sea a costa de la salud y seguridad de los demás. Sí se puede amigos!

My wish for 2026 is that all my friends and fellow creatives, artists, and creators are fully, freely, and confidently in control of the value of their time and their art, that we can all overcome with a positive attitude the new challenges brought about by this post-pandemic era, with its short memory and urgency to emerge, even at the expense of the health and safety of others. Una gentil aclaratoria:
Personalmente creo que hay proyectos y empresas que merecen aportes desde el corazón sin pensar en el dinero, como por ejemplo proyectos sobre el bienestar familiar, sobre la protección-ayuda de sectores y grupos vulnerables, defensa y protección de fauna silvestre y domestica, iniciativas educativas y muchas mas, como proyectos familiares o de amistades, incluso una empresa cuya iniciativa te haga mucha ilusión; es 100% valido querer aportar tu tiempo-recursos-talento en proyectos y empresas si es tu deseo contribuir sin esperar algo a cambio, mi nota es solo una reflexión sobre los casos donde se ha vuelto costumbre "tener un sistema para marear" a las personas para conseguir cosas gratis, incluso con alevosía.
