At that time I was not aware of AI in art creation at all. Its a tough spot, as an artist you can use so many tools, and in the end you are still creating even if you just prompt an AI.
I used AI for creating storyboards for my clients commercials. It is just a fast way to create something, but the product created has to be your own.
One could also argue that the simple act of writing a prompt for an AI image is some kind of an art in itself.
The technology is so new and there is certainly some ethics that need to be established.
But denying the use of an AI is not the way. That is right.

I agree, one should embrace new tools instead of condemn them. I use it too to e.g. illustrate or visualize posts. But it should be at least mentioned.
Absolutely, quote it, say you used it and it's all fine. Tools are there to be used and those who do not use them will have to adapt later. Same as smartphones, the internet, television, radio..... book printing.
All have been condemned and doomed for death until they proved otherwise.
Mankind does not learn...
There will be always some who think destroying new technology is the way...
The industrial revolution and the Luddites or Maschinenstürmer...
One should embrace technology but always with a grain of salt
