¡Hola comunidad!. Pertenezco a la generación de niños que crecieron viendo Mazinger Z, Candy, Heidi, Jem & The Holograms, Calabozos y Dragones, entre muchos otros famosos dibujos animados. Durante mi adolescencia el reloj despertador que descansaba sobre la mesa de noche al lado de mi cama, me levantaba cada día con la misma emisora que -buscando una perfecta, di con ella y allí se quedó parada cinco años seguidos- llenó todo el período de mi juventud con notas de Nirvana, Wilson Phillips, Tracy Chapman, UB40, Soda Stereo, Sentimiento Muerto, Guns and Roses, Roxette entre otras. Así es que sí, tengo unos cuantos años…y eso me gusta.

I belong to the generation of children who grew up watching Mazinger Z, Candy, Heidi, Jem & The Holograms, Dungeons & Dragons, among many other famous cartoons. During my adolescence, the alarm clock that rested on the night table next to my bed, woke me up every day with the same station that -looking for a perfect one, I found it and there it stayed five years in a row- filling the entire period of my youth with notes from Nirvana, Wilson Phillips, Tracy Chapman, UB40, Soda Stereo, Sentimiento Muerto, Guns and Roses, Roxette among others. So yes, I'm a few years old…and I like that.

Mi nombre es Evelyn, nací en una ciudad que tiene la dicha de estar decorada toda el año de un cielo azul y una inmensa montaña verde. Se llama Caracas y tiene una capacidad extrema de moverme la fibra del corazón. El amor me hizo salir de ella no sola una, ¡sino dos veces! y me llevó a sembrar raíces muy lejos, en una ciudad con una cultura extensa y una arquitectura preciosa llamada Barcelona en España. Aparentemente después de leer muchas historias de hadas y princesas en mi niñez, la vida me tenía deparado un Príncipe Azul catalán.
Soy una persona de mente inquieta; así es que, siempre estoy ocupada, haciendo algo que me motive. Ahora estoy con ustedes, pero también atiendo mi casa, trabajo, bordo en punto de cruz, escribo relatos, cuentos, poesías y novelas y desempeño una de las labores que más me llenan…ser madre de una patinadora artística de siete años de edad.

My name is Evelyn, I was born in a city that has the joy of being decorated all year round with a blue sky and an immense green mountain, it’s called Caracas and it has an extreme ability to move my heartstrings. Love made me leave it not just once, but twice! and it took me to plant roots far away, in a city with an extensive culture and beautiful architecture called Barcelona in Spain. Apparently after reading many stories of fairies and princesses in my childhood, life had a Catalan Prince Charming in store for me.
I am a restless-minded person; so, I am always busy, doing something that motivates me. I am with you now, but I also take care of my home, work, do cross-stitch, I write stories, tales, poetry and novels and perform one of the tasks that most fills me... being the mother of a seven-year-old figure skater.

Viajar es otra de mis grandes pasiones, me gusta conocer lugares nuevos y regresar a aquellos que me han enamorado. No existe mejor forma de abrirse a la humanidad que descubriendo personas diferentes a uno, probando comidas distintas, admirando culturas diversas y aprendiendo qué hay más allá de lo que estamos acostumbrados.

Traveling is another of my great passions, I like to know new places and return to those who have fallen in love with me. There is no better way to open up to humanity than by discovering people who are different from you, trying different foods, admiring different cultures and learning what is beyond what we are used to.

Desde niña me gusta perderme en el increíble y mágico mundo de las letras, aunque confieso -aquí entre ustedes y yo- que no tengo un libro predilecto; sin embargo, si me lo permiten, les puedo recomendar algunos que atesoro de forma especial: “Cien años de soledad”, “El diario de Ana Frank”, “La casa del pez que escupe el agua”, “Romancero Gitano”, “Por quién doblan las campanas” y “Cumbres Borrascosas”. A pesar de no tener un solo libro con el calificativo de “más especial”, si puedo decir que Ernest Hemingway es mi escritor favorito.

Since I was a child I like to get lost in the incredible and magical world of lters, although I confess -here between you and me- that I do not have a favorite book; however, if I may, I can recommend some that I treasure in a special way: "One hundred years of solitude", "The Diary of Anne Frank", "The House of the Fish that Spits the Water", "Romancero Gitano", "For whom the bells tolls" and "Cumbres Borrascosas". Despite not having a single book with the qualifier of "more special", I can say that Ernest Hemingway is my favorite writer.

Por alguna razón que desconozco -creo que es genético de mi familia materna- camino muy, pero muy rápido, ese es uno de mis “secretos deportivos”.
Tengo la dicha de amar mi profesión y de combinarla con intereses personales que me apasionan. Estudié marketing y publicidad y sigo tan motivada en ese mundo como el primer día que entré a la universidad a estudiarla. De eso hace casi treinta años.
El sol y yo no somos amigos, le huyo como Drácula al ajo, por esa razón el verano es la única época del año que no disfruto. Durante esos tres meses solo me motivan cuatro cosas: comer mucho salmorejo (un plato típico de Córdoba- España), los cumpleaños de mi esposo e hija- que por cosas del destino y las extrañas jugadas que hace la vida, es el mismo día- y mi cumpleaños. Cuando entra el calor lo único que tengo claro es que falta poco para el otoño y el invierno, para mi, las mejores épocas del año.

For some reason that I do not know -I think it is genetic of my maternal family- I walk very, very fast, that is one of my "sports secrets".
I have the joy of loving my profession and combining it with personal interests that I am passionate about. I studied marketing and advertising and I remain as motivated in that world as the first day I entered university to study it. That was almost 30 years ago.
The sun and I are not friends, I flee like Dracula to the garlic, for that reason the summer is the only time of the year that I do not enjoy. During those three months I am motivated by only four things: eat a lot of Salmorejo (a typical dish of Cordova- Spain), the birthdays of my husband and daughter- that for things of destiny and the strange plays that life makes, it is the same day- and my birthday. When the heat comes in, the only thing I know for sure is that autumn and winter are just around the corner, for me, the best times of the year.

Soy una persona de tradiciones, pero gracias al encanto que da mezclarse con otras culturas, he introducido en mi hogar algunas costumbres que ahora ya las siento mias. En mi país la Navidad es mágica, todos los centros comerciales son decorados con luces, árboles, muñecos y las casas no difieren mucho de eso. Cada una se viste con las mejores galas decembrinas, se escucha gaita zuliana (una música muy movida que invita a bailar y ser feliz) y se come hallacas, pan de jamón, ensalada de gallina y pernil. En Nochebuena los familiares se reúnen a cenar y se entregan los regalos. Aunque vivo lejos de mi tierra, le he enseñado a mi hija todas mis tradiciones y a ella le encantan. Mi esposo también nos ha enseñado a querer las suyas. Aquí en Cataluña en navidad, los niños acostumbran ir a la montaña a buscar un tronco y luego de encontrarlo se lo llevan a casa. Durante varios días se le da comida (actualmente los venden con ojos, gorra y una boca, y se les coloca una mantita) y la noche del venticuatro se le canta una canción mientras se le dan golpecitos con un palito y así va “cagando” regalos. El personaje se llama “Tiò” que se traduce al castellano como “Tronco”. Ambas tradiciones navideñas se fusionan en mi hogar y a mi hija le hacen inmensamente feliz.

I am a person of traditions, but thanks to the charm of blending with other cultures, I have introduced in my home some customs that now feel mine. In my country Christmas is magical, all shopping centers are decorated with lights, trees, dolls and houses do not differ much from that. Each one dresses up in the best Decembrine dresses, you hear Zuliana gaita (a very lively music that invites you to dance and be happy) and people eat hallacas, ham bread, chicken salad and pork. On Christmas Eve the relatives gather for dinner and gifts are given to each other. Although I live far from my land, I have taught my daughter all my traditions and she loves them. My husband has also taught us to love his. Here in Catalonia at Christmas, children usually go to the mountains to look for a log and after finding it they take it home. For several days he is given food (currently they are sold with eyes, cap and a mouth, and a blanket is put on them) and the night of the twenty-fourth a song is sung while he is tapped with a stick and goes "shitting" gifts. The character is called "Tiò" which is translated into Spanish as "Tronco". Both Christmas traditions merge in my home and my daughter is immensely happy.

Descubrí Hive a través de @soy-laloreto. Me han resultado muy gratificantes las clases y la orientación que he recibido cada día. Siempre es agradable encontrarte con personas que disfruten lo que hacen y -mejor que eso- tengan la capacidad de brindar apoyo a los demás.
Esta es una nueva experiencia para mi, por esa eterna condición que me acompaña desde que nací de tener una mente inquieta y de poner mi cerebro a crear, a trabajar. Me encantan los retos personales, aprender y seguir descubriendo que el mundo tiene muchas ventanas por dónde asomarse a vivir.

I discovered Hive through @soy-laloreto. I found the classes and the guidance I received every day very rewarding. It’s always nice to meet people who enjoy what they do and-better than that-have the ability to support others.
This is a new experience for me, due to that eternal condition that accompanies me since I was born of having a restless mind and putting my brain to create, to work.
I love personal challenges, learning and continuing to discover that the world has many windows through which to look out to live.
