Hacía mucho tiempo que no publicaba. En los últimos doce meses, han pasado mil cosas. Entre mi penúltimo año de liceo, formar parte de la pre-selección de volibol del estado Bolívar, y lo que ha pasado con mi hermana @manujune. Si la siguen, estoy segura de que están al tanto de la situación. Sino, los invito a echarle un vistazo a su perfil. En fin, lo que hoy me trajo de vuelta fue un pequeño cambio en rutina y se resume en: Caracas.

Hello again, Hive community.
It's been a long time since I've posted. In the last twelve months, a thousand things have happened. Between my junior year of high school, being part of the Bolivar state volleyball pre-selection, and what has happened with my sister @manujune. If you follow her, I'm sure you are aware of the situation. If not, I invite you to take a look at her profile. Anyway, what brought me back today was a little change in routine and it boils down to: Caracas.
Desde que empezó la travesía que ha pasado @manujune, no había podido verla, y admito que la situación me tomó por sorpresa ya que semanas antes del diagnóstico, yo la había visto, y estaba bastante bien a mi parecer. Debido a su situación, ellos tuvieron que mudar sus vidas a la ciudad capital, Caracas, buscando la mejor atención médica posible, y desde Abril no había podido verlos ni acompañarlos en esa situación. Luego de tanta espera, un viaje de unas 16 horas en un autobús pintoresco, por decir algo, y unos primeros días bastante entretenidos, por fin estoy aquí con ellos acompañándolos y compartiendo mientras sea posible.

Since the beginning of the journey that @manujune has gone through, I had not been able to see her, and I admit that the situation took me by surprise since weeks before the diagnosis, I had seen her, and she was doing quite well in my opinion. Due to their situation, they had to move their lives to the capital city, Caracas, looking for the best medical attention possible, and since April I had not been able to see them or accompany them in that situation. After so much waiting, [a journey of about 16 hours in a picturesque bus, to say the least](https://peakd.com/hive-178265/@hlezama/back-to-caracas-with-a-precious-company), and a rather entertaining first few days, I am finally here with them, accompanying them and sharing as much as possible.
Quiero compartir con ustedes nuestra aventura de hoy. Luego de las típicas actividades matutinas en casa, empezamos nuestro día acompañando a @manujune a la quimio del día. Luego de que llegáramos al banco de sangre, mi papa y yo nos dirigimos a nuestra pequeña aventura.

I want to share with you our adventure today. After the typical morning activities at home, we started our day by accompanying @manujune to chemo. After we arrived at the blood bank, my dad and I headed out on our little adventure.
Les doy un poco de contexto. Como habré comentado en post anteriores, mi sueño desde que tengo memoria ha sido estudiar medicina. Ahora que me falta solo un año para terminar el liceo, he tenido que explorar opciones de universidad, pero la verdad es que mi favorita ha sido la UCV (Universidad Central de Venezuela) ubicada en nuestra querida ciudad capital. No había tenido la oportunidad de visitar el campus, hasta hoy.
A la salida del banco de sangre, se encuentra una de las sedes de la facultad de medicina de la UCV. Así que decidimos empezar nuestra expedición buscando información en el edificio.

Let me give you some context. As I may have mentioned in previous posts, my dream for as long as I can remember has been to study medicine. Now that I am only one year away from finishing high school, I have had to explore university options, but the truth is that my favorite has been the UCV (Universidad Central de Venezuela) located in our beloved capital city. I had not had the opportunity to visit the campus until today.
Just outside the blood bank, is one of the branches of the UCV's medical school. So we decided to start our expedition looking for information in that building.
La entrada principal estaba cerrada y no había nadie cerca que nos pudiera orientar, así que decidimos darle la vuelta al edificio, buscando otra entrada o algún ser humano en el edificio.

The main entrance was closed and there was no one around to guide us, so we decided to walk around the building, looking for another entrance or a human being in the building.
Sin embargo, fue una misión fallida. Aunque encontramos otra entrada, no estaba abierta y ciertamente no había nadie, ni un vigilante. Luego de fallar en el inicio de nuestra expedición, decidimos intentar llegar, sin conocer la ciudad, al campus de la UCV.

However, it was a failed mission. Although we found another entrance, it was not open and there was certainly no one there, not even a guard. After failing to start our expedition, we decided to try to reach, without knowing the city, the UCV campus.
Decidimos empezar a bajar la calle (Av Panteón) buscando algún autobús que nos llevara a algún lugar cercano a la UCV, pero en el camino nos encontramos con la muy imponente Biblioteca Nacional, así que decidimos desviarnos un rato para explorar un poco.

We decided to start walking down the street (Av Panteón) looking for a bus that would take us somewhere near the UCV, but on the way we came across the very imposing National Library, so we decided to detour for a while to explore a bit.
Aunque se veía algo abandonada y su entrada estaba invadida por arte político, me pareció un lugar simplemente hermoso. Tenía una especie de plaza gigantesca que me pareció uno de los mejores lugares en la ciudad hasta ahora.

Although it looked somewhat abandoned and its entrance was overrun by political art, I found it to be a simply beautiful place. It had a sort of gigantic plaza that I thought was one of the best places in the city so far.
Esta parte de la plaza me pareció un poco extraña, especialmente por el busto de un científico iraní de la edad media.

I found this part of the square a bit strange, especially because of the bust of an Iranian scientist from the Middle Ages.
El edificio más emblemático y que da su nombre a la zona, es el Panteón Nacional, el lugar donde reposan los restos de héroes nacionales. Desafortunadamente, el lugar estaba cerrado por "mantenimiento" (así lo puso una señora mayor que nos vio curioseando y quiso ayudarnos). Nos dijeron que estaría abierto al público el miércoles. Esperamos poder verlo por dentro.

The most emblematic building that gives its name to the area is the National Pantheon, the place where the remains of national heroes rest. Unfortunately, the place was closed for “maintenance” (so said an elderly lady who saw us browsing and wanted to help us). We were told that it would be open to the public on Wednesday. We hope to be able to see the inside.
Luego de admirar el hermoso lugar y ver a un viejo Golden Retriver jugar con su pelota súper enérgicamente, decidimos seguir con nuestra travesía.

After admiring the beautiful place and watching an old Golden Retriver play with his ball super energetically, we decided to continue our journey.
Tomamos nuestro segundo autobús del día. Yo nunca había visitado Caracas y mi papá nunca había llegado a la zona a la que nos dirigíamos así que estábamos un poco perdidos, lo que llevó a que nos bajáramos antes de tiempo (La Bandera).

We took our second bus of the day. I had never visited Caracas and my dad had never been to the area we were headed to so we were a bit lost, which led to us getting off early (La Bandera).
Así que tuvimos que tomar un tercer autobús que nos dejaría en, la calle donde pasaban los autobuses a la Universidad Central. Si, así es, cuatro autobuses para por fin llegar a nuestro destino.

So we had to take a third bus that would leave us on the street where the buses to Central University passed. Yes, that's right, four buses to finally reach our destination.
Existe una probabilidad muy grande de que haya una ruta más rápida y sencilla a nuestro destino, pero tal vez lo descubriremos en otra oportunidad.

There is a very high probability that there is a quicker and easier route to our destination, but perhaps we will find out another time.
Al llegar a la entrada de esa universidad, no importaron los 4 autobuses o el calor o tiempo que habíamos tardado. Habíamos llegado a la UCV; ya no importaba más nada.

When we arrived at the entrance of that university, it didn't matter the 4 buses or the heat or the time it had taken us. We had arrived at UCV; nothing else mattered.
Esa universidad se había convertido en parte de mi sueño y no podía creer que ya estaba frente a ella.

That university had become part of my dream and I couldn't believe that I was already in front of it.
Luego de un breve momento de contemplación con un poco de impresión, entramos a explorar el campus. Nos dieron la bienvenida estos pajaritos que parecen garzas. Me pareció raro verlos en una zona como Caracas, sin costa marina.

After a brief moment of contemplation and amazement, we went inside to explore the campus. We were welcomed by these little birds that look like herons. I thought it was strange to see them in an area like Caracas, with no sea coast.
Mi papá me cuenta que quizás sea apenas un 50% de lo que alguna vez fue, pero para mi estaba espectacular.

My dad tells me that this university may be now only 50% of what it once was, but to me it was spectacular.
Empezamos a caminar sin saber muy bien hacia donde hasta que decidimos acercarnos a uno de los edificios a ver si había alguien que nos orientara. Al parecer estábamos en la facultad de humanidades y debíamos cruzar un par edificios más para llegar al ala de medicina, que, por cierto, es gran parte de la universidad.

We started walking without really knowing where to go until we decided to approach one of the buildings to see if there was someone to guide us. Apparently, we were in the humanities faculty and had to cross a couple more buildings to get to the medical wing, which, by the way, is a large part of the university.
El campus en sí es gigantesco, y el área de medicina también es inmensa. Hay muchas estatuas de arte moderno, murales y demás.

The campus itself is gigantic, and the medical area is also huge. There are many modern art statues, murals and so on.
Visitamos un cafetín que está antes de llegar al hospital Universitario. Me encantó. Buena atención y excelentes empanadas. El jugo de parchita no estaba muy bueno (tuve que pedir más azúcar y no tenía hielo).

We visited a cafe right before arriving at the University Hospital. I loved it. Good service and excellent empanadas. The passion fruit juice was not very good, though (I had to ask for more sugar and there was no ice).
Toda la zona de medicina estaba bastante sola. En el resto del campus se veían jardineros y algunos trabajadores, pero los edificios de medicina estaban completamente cerrados.

The entire medical area was quite lonely. The rest of the campus had gardeners and a few workers, but the medical buildings were closed.
Pasamos por el Hospital Universitario, que es parte esencial de la UCV y del área de medicina, y estaba bastante movido, así que decidimos no entrar.

We passed by the University Hospital, which is an essential part of the UCV and the medical area, and it was quite busy, so we decided not to go in.
Nos dirigimos al edificio administrativo a consultar temas como la inscripción, los salones para los de primer semestre y esas cosas, pero tampoco había nadie.

We went to the administration building to ask about registration, classrooms for first semester students and so on, but there was no one there either.
Un vigilante nos informó que el próximo lunes regresaran las actividades administrativas, así que trataremos de volver el próximo lunes.

A watchman informed us that next Monday they'll resume administrative activities, so we will try to come back next Monday.
La aventura de regreso la dejaremos para un próximos post. Espero que hayan disfrutado esta expedición y tour por un pequeño sector de Caracas. Hasta la próxima.
