I am the kind of person who needs a strong reason or motivation before I do something. If I don’t have that push or encouragement, I tend to relax and postpone things. That is why when it comes to studying or working on projects, I value friends who can push me, correct me, and keep me focused. I admire people who are serious, determined, and goal-driven because being around such people helps me do better.
When I was in school, I had a friend who made a huge difference in my study life. She was the kind of person who didn’t take “I’m tired” as an excuse. Almost every night, she would call me in the middle of the night just to make sure I was awake to read. She believed midnight was the best time to study because it was quiet and peaceful. I would wake up, read for a few minutes, and before I knew it, I was already sleeping again. The truth is, I don’t enjoy midnight reading at all. My brain functions better during the day when there is light and energy around me. That is why I always prefer reading in the daytime, where I can think clearly and understand faster.
Even though I didn’t enjoy her midnight routine, I appreciated her effort and her desire to push me to be better. That kind of friend is important, the one who will not allow you to remain lazy or distracted. She might not have known it, but her consistency taught me discipline and the importance of accountability.
When it comes to studying during the day, I am the opposite of her. I like reading alone, in silence, and without distraction. I don’t like noise or group reading during the day because I tend to lose focus when people are around. That’s why I only enjoy reading with others at night, when the goal is just to stay awake and motivated.
During my time in school, I was always the group leader whenever there was a group project. I guess people saw me as someone responsible enough to organize things. The funny part is that most of my group members were not always reliable when it came to doing their parts. However, they were always ready to contribute money for printing, typing, or any expense. So, most times, I did the majority of the work myself, and they would just pay me back for my effort. Even though it was stressful, I didn’t complain much because at least, I got the job done my way.
Having a study partner depends on the situation. If it’s a daytime study, I prefer being alone. But at night or during tough periods, I value having someone who can push and motivate me to stay awake and focused. So, I won’t say study partners are unnecessary; they are important if you find the right one. The key is to know yourself, your study style, and the kind of person that helps you stay motivated.
I am inviting @blessing.simeon @blessing01 @glowandflow to the prompt.
