The law of life

in ThoughtfulDailyPost2 years ago (edited)

Human beings have an innate desire to increase in every good way. We want to increase in number, knowledge, ability, capacity, influence, yea, in every good thing. It is this innate desire that make life worth living.

Whatever forecloses the possibility of a person increasing or getting better with time will undoubtedly consign such individual to the dungeon of hopelessness which is sure to be followed by helplessness that may sooner or later end in death.

Increase therefore is the fundamental law of life. Every living thing grows as much as possible. A tree will grow as much as it can, given the right environment. However, the tree lack the ability to choose or change its environment. Not so with humans.

Nevertheless, just like a seed or tree need the right physical environment (I mean the right kind of soil, sunlight, water and so on) to grow, humans need the right kind of spiritual, social, and physical environment to be the best they are capable of becoming.

For this reason, it is important that we take care of our association because it constitutes our social environment. Those whom we choose to associate with, will either make or mar us. Someone has rightly said that we are the average of five or six of our closest friends.

If you think you are not growing or increasing as you desire to, this is one area you may want to look at. Perhaps, there are people who you want to keep at arm's length and those who you may need to completely withdraw from or those whose friendship you need to pay more attention to.

Another area to also consider in wholistic development or growth are the materials upon which we feed. I mean the books, tapes, movies, and so on that we expose ourselves to. They are either influencing us negatively or positively.

Now, it is also important to note that there are laws that govern the increase of our tangible and intangible resources. The veracity of these laws are observable in nature. Let me consider some of these cardinal laws:

The prudence of increasing by investing our time

Anyone who hope to make the most of his or her life must master the art of time management. The wise investment of one’s time is non-negotiable in the game of life. Time by it very nature cannot be stored nor saved. It can only be squandered or invested.

Time is an intangible resource that is equally bestowed on us all on a daily basis by the creator. We can weave this substance into a colorful life if we make the most of it by investing in our development or we can squander it by engaging in activities that are meant to “kill” it.

The paradox of increasing by giving our treasures

Giving is living which means the ball is in our court if we desire an ever-increasing life. We have to take the initiative. In the world in which we live, it is impossible to get anything of enduring value without first giving something of value.

Fortunately, we all have something of value to give. If you are reading this, you have time. It is a treasure you can give to a right course that will give you lasting happiness.

The universe literally is designed to operate by the irrefutable law that requires that getting must be preceded by giving. Our constant attempt to reverse this law, that is, to get before giving is the reason for our many woes.

If you think I am making too many bogus claims, let me call your attention to the fact that this law is not only verifiable by nature but can be observed in every segment of the society.

This law has been stated in different forms by different people. It has been called different names, the most popular being the law of sowing and reaping. Regardless of what it is called, the basic fact is that, to increase you’ve got to give.

In my opinion, no other person state it more beautifully than Jesus:

Give and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure, you use it will be measured back to you.

The practice of increasing by using our talents.

In a way, this law is but a subset of the law of giving before getting. For the purpose of clarity however, it is good that we consider it separately.

It is a common knowledge that we get better at things we give ourselves over to. As the saying goes, practice makes for perfection.

We’ve all got talents or skills that comes to us naturally or that we acquired by training. If our desire is increase, we must constantly put these talents or skill to use. Talents or skills that we fail to cultivate by constant practice will atrophy with time.

In conclusion

If you are thinking of an ever-increasing life, a progressive life, take this discourse to heart.
