Are you someone who set New Year goals and is always passionate about achieving those goals but all of a sudden, probably in the middle of the year there is no more drive to achieving them, you begin to relent on your efforts to achieve your goals?
Or do you have the mindset I always had that setting New Year goals is nothing but waste of time as I felt I would never achieve them after all.
I would like to give few tips on how to keep the drive for achieving your goals and probably guide you in achieving your goals
THE GOD FACTOR: many people set New Year goals and fail to tell those goals to their creator, I believe all strength comes from above. God has a way of giving us the best things in His time and with less efforts. So the first step, is to tell it to your creator.
WRITE IT DOWN: so many people claim to be so intelligent that they feel nothing needs to be written down, no doubt your brain can carry but writing makes you precise and brings an exact direction. Even God said “Write a vision and make it plain……..”Habakkuk 2 verse 1. So my dear write that goal down.
SHORT AND SIMPLE TO ACHIEVE: I have encountered people who write goals that are long enough to be acquired in a decade. Haber! How do you expect to achieve those long goals within a period of 365 days? Remember, consistency matters too.
Also, Imagine someone who earns 10,000 naira monthly and is setting a goal as big as buying a car that costs 2 million naira. I believe God works miracles but please let’s be realistic. Try to make your goals to be short and simple to achieve, to avoid an impossible feeling of achieving them later.
An example of a short and simple goal is; starting up a small perfume business and saving 10naira daily.
Do not forget that it has to be easy to achieve, so you can work on consistency for self-development.
IT MUST BE PRECISE: There is this quote that says “Hit the nail on the head”. My dear, don’t beat around the bush, make up your mind on exactly what you want. I have heard someone say “I need a good result”. No doubt that’s a good one but I put it to you that once you do not know exactly what you want, you will settle for less when the sky awaits your arrival. Please be precise on your goals.
Finally, KEEP A REMINDER: you would agree with me that circumstances of life could be so overwhelming at some point and if one is not careful one may lose focus. A time where things will no longer go as planned will come, all one needs is a simple and soft reminder. You can simply set a two weeks reminder (depending on your personality) on your phone, or even write your goals on sticky notes and paste them in your room. These soft reminder will awaken you whenever you feel dizzy on achieving your goals.
