Hello rally fans :)!
With the 2025 WRC season that’s just about to start, Esapekka Lappi has shared a bit of a sad update on his current WRC career situation, leaving fans eager for news about his next steps. In a video message, Lappi opened up about the uncertainty of his future, confirming that while he’s in discussions with Hyundai, he’s also exploring opportunities in other championships.
Hyundai is reportedly still considering running a fourth Rally1 car at selected events next season. However, this decision is dependent on the team securing a larger budget from the headquarters in South Korea. If this happens, it could open the door for Lappi or perhaps another driver to join Hyundai’s lineup for 2025 :).
Lappi’s uncertainty has a moving effect throughout the rallying world. Drivers like Dani Sordo and Andreas Mikkelsen are also waiting for Hyundai’s final decision, as it could shape their own plans for the upcoming season. Škoda for example, is in a holding pattern as it decides who will replace Oliver Solberg, who has moved to Toyota. Mikkelsen, too, is affected, as his future depends heavily on whether Hyundai decides to expand the team… :/
Lappi’s honesty about the situation shows how unpredictable the WRC world can be. It’s not just about talent; it’s also about timing, team budgets, and a bit of luck :). I’ll be without a doubt rooting for him to secure a seat, whether it’s with Hyundai or someone else :)!!
Whatever happens, one thing is sure: Esapekka Lappi along with Mikkelsen and Sordo are way too talented to be left out, and wherever they land, I’m sure they’ll bring their trademark speed and determination to the stage :).
