Hoy quiero compartirles toda mi travesía para poder realizar trabajos de reparaciones menores en mi hogar que requería con urgencia para solventar unas filtraciones que me tenían muy angustiada y me ocupaban mucho tiempo y esfuerzo porque me tenían secando agua todo el día.
Cabe destacar que hace como unos 8 años me pasó algo similar, que el agua de la regadera se me venía del baño para la cocina y me cambiaron los pomos de la ducha y eso se solucionó de forma casi automática, pero con el tiempo, desde hace unos meses, el problema continuó y el agua seguía viniéndose para la cocina y ocasionaba un desastre.
Justo en ese lado de la cocina quedan dos inodoros de desagüe, los cuales se habían tapado y, cuando el agua se pasaba hacia la cocina, no tenía por dónde salir y se llenaba el piso de la cocina y de la sala. Así que el primer paso fue el destapar estos desagües y así el agua que salía se iba por ahí y había que secar menos, pero en esa parte se mantenía un flujo constante de agua todo el día que me volvía loca.

Today I want to share with you my entire journey to carry out minor repairs in my home that were urgently needed to fix some leaks that were causing me a lot of distress and taking up a lot of my time and effort because I was busy drying up water all day long.It should be noted that about eight years ago, something similar happened to me, where water from the shower was coming into the kitchen from the bathroom, and they changed the shower knobs, which solved the problem almost automatically. However, over time, a few months ago, the problem continued, and water kept coming into the kitchen, causing a mess.On that side of the kitchen, there are two toilet drains, which had become clogged, and when the water flowed into the kitchen, it had nowhere to go and flooded the kitchen and living room floors. So, the first step was to unclog these drains so that the water that came out would go there and there would be less to dry up, but in that area there was a constant flow of water all day long that drove me crazy.
La solución efectiva era cambiar la llave de la ducha, el sistema completo, no solo los pomos, pero para poder hacer este trabajo o cualquier otro trabajo relacionado con tuberías dentro del apartamento, era necesario cambiar la llave de paso del apartamento que nunca se había cambiado y eso era todo un proceso porque la llave principal del edificio estaba dañada y para hacer ese trabajo debía ser en la noche cuando ya cortaran el agua del edificio.
Y esto se dificultaba por el tema de que la persona que haría ese trabajo debía estar en mi apartamento a eso de las 11 de la noche, ya cuando cerraran el agua, y era algo complicado por el tema de que trabajar a esa hora generaría mucho ruido y no era algo que quería hacer, sobre todo por respeto a los vecinos; aunque ellos igual no respetan, yo no quería incomodar, así que por el grupo del edificio notifiqué que se realizaría este trabajo.
Casualmente, encontré a un vecino que vive en mi edificio y me dijo que él sabía cambiar la llave, así que me fui a comprar todos los materiales necesarios para que cuando se hiciera este trabajo, ya con la pared y la tubería rota, no faltara nada. La llave la pedí de la mejor calidad; sé que estas piezas hay que comprarlas de buena calidad porque es algo que debe durar mucho tiempo y la presión del agua con el tiempo las daña, por eso es necesario que sea de buenos materiales. Yo tenía una que se veía de color metálico y la cambié por una de bronce, que al ponerla una al lado de la otra se veía la gran diferencia.
The effective solution was to replace the shower faucet, the entire system, not just the knobs, but in order to do this work or any other work related to plumbing inside the apartment, it was necessary to replace the apartment's shut-off valve, which had never been changed, and that was quite a process because the building's main valve was damaged and the work had to be done at night when the water supply to the building was shut off.
This was complicated by the fact that the person who would do the work had to be in my apartment at around 11 p.m., when the water would be turned off, and it was complicated because working at that hour would generate a lot of noise, which I didn't want to do, especially out of respect for the neighbors, even though they don't respect me. I didn't want to cause any inconvenience, so I notified the building group that this work would be carried out.
Coincidentally, I ran into a neighbor who lives in my building and he told me that he knew how to change the valve, so I went out and bought all the necessary materials so that when the work was done, with the wall and pipe already broken, nothing would be missing. I ordered the best quality valve; I know that these parts have to be of good quality because they need to last a long time and the water pressure damages them over time, so they need to be made of good materials. I had one that looked metallic, and I replaced it with a bronze one, which, when placed side by side, showed a big difference.
También me pidieron una junta dress; la llave de paso era de 3/4, cemento, arena, teflón y estuco y con esto y mucha bulla y una buena trasnochada se dejó instalada la llave de paso, para verificar al día siguiente si tenía alguna fuga y en efecto fue así, quedó botando una gota; la apretaron esa mañana y me dejaron pendiente de una nueva filtración y también la tenía y fue al día siguiente donde la vinieron a apretar nuevamente, más teflón y fue que resolvieron.
Pero no fue sino hasta el día siguiente que verificaron que ya no tenía fugas de agua y no fue sino dos días después que vinieron a tapar la pared rota y dos días después le echaron el estuco y dos días después vinieron a corregir los detalles y para poder decir que ya el problema de la llave de paso estaba resuelto.
Ya, gracias a Dios, resolví, Cambiamos la llave de paso para comenzar a realizar las reparaciones internas relacionadas con el agua del baño y poder realizar otros cambios que tengo en mi lista de pendientes; por lo pronto, debo pintar la pared nuevamente, que se ve de dos colores, dos tonos de blanco, e ingeniarme algo para tapar el cuadrado donde está la llave de paso, que el protector que tenía al momento de sacarlo lo dañaron y, como esta es una llave de paso un poco más grande, ya esa no servía.
They also asked me for a joint seal; the shut-off valve was 3/4, cement, sand, Teflon, and stucco, and with this and a lot of noise and a good night's sleep, the shut-off valve was installed, to check the next day if it had any leaks, and indeed it did, it was dripping; They tightened it that morning and left me waiting for a new leak, and sure enough, there was another one. The next day, they came back to tighten it again, added more Teflon, and that solved the problem.
But it wasn't until the next day that they verified that there were no more water leaks, and it wasn't until two days later that they came to patch up the broken wall, and two days after that they applied the stucco, and two days after that they came to correct the details and to be able to say that the shut-off valve problem was solved.
Now, thank God, I've solved the problem. We changed the shut-off valve so we could start making the internal repairs related to the bathroom water and make other changes that I have on my to-do list. For now, I have to repaint the wall, which has two colors, two shades of white, and figure out something to cover the square where the shut-off valve is, because the protector that was on it when we removed it was damaged, and since this is a slightly larger shut-off valve, it no longer worked.
Pero ya esto es más estético; la parte funcional de la llave de paso ya la tengo y es un gran logro para mí en este proceso de tareas pendientes, de reparaciones, de remodelaciones y pare de contar. Voy a seguir trabajando en realizar posteriormente el cambio del sistema de agua de la ducha, la regadera y otros problemas necesarios en el baño. Luego les contaré más. Por lo pronto, el tema de la llave de paso está solucionado.
But this is more aesthetic; I already have the functional part of the shut-off valve, which is a great achievement for me in this process of pending tasks, repairs, renovations, and so on. I'm going to continue working on changing the water system in the shower, the sprinkler, and other necessary problems in the bathroom. I'll tell you more later. For now, the shut-off valve issue is solved.
