I have made many improvements to my home, and I always said: the garden will be the last thing. With this in mind, I could buy beautiful things for my home, but their entrance did not complement everything I did. I receive visitors, now I spend more time sitting there, and what finally tipped the scales was that we no longer had anywhere to store the motorcycle, so I decided to pay attention to this part of my home. Obviously, the first thing we needed was the gate. I discussed the options with my brother because, since nothing can be normal, we had to decide whether to leave one column or remove it and build a new one to make it wider. I liked the option of making it wider, but building another column meant more money, so I decided to leave the base and work with it. Besides, the day I can afford to buy the truck is the day I can afford to modify the gate 😎.

And, speaking of modification, we had to decide whether to make it or buy it. My brother has his welding machine, but he told me that the materials were very expensive and that it could cost over $1,000 to make 🙃. Those prices only included the tubes used to make it. As luck would have it, a neighbor was selling a gate that my brother saw in good condition and that met all our requirements. In addition, all the ones I had seen online were far from my home, so finding and bringing it home would have been an additional cost. My neighbor sold it for $150. It was worn from the sun and had no lock, but it served my purpose. I would like to say that was all I needed to get started, but no. The materials for its installation ranged from pipes, electrodes, rails, and things I didn't understand but were necessary. Here is the detailed list:

I looked for prices in many places, and everything came to about $300. I bought things little by little and it took me almost a year to gather everything I needed. Once again, Cashea helped me, walking a lot, looking for other quotes (because all of that was exaggerated), going to the hardware store I like and with their free transportation, I also saved money on bringing the materials. Every effort makes a difference. With all the materials, the first step was to knock down the wall. This step had to be accompanied by installing the gate because I couldn't leave the house exposed. So, I made sure I had all the materials and the man committed to doing all the work, which would take a week, in theory.

One of the keys to this job was patience. I knew it wasn't something that could be done in a day or two and that I needed to stay calm every day, especially with my mom, who doesn't know how to manage time and wants everything “right now.” The dust, the rubble, materials scattered all over the garden—it became my routine, and I learned to live with it. There were days when the electricity went out, we ran out of water, things broke, materials were missing, I had to go out four times a day to buy supplies... In short, nothing that couldn't happen normally, because that would be too boring.

Did I like it? Of course I did! What I must highlight is the work of the builder, who understood everything I wanted. It had been a long time since I had met someone who worked not just for the sake of working, but to maintain the details. I think that was the part that got me through all those days. I thought his labor was inexpensive, considering that he had to make many adjustments to the gate, but the good thing is that he found a solution for everything. Another thing was that his assistant was a girl. When I saw her, I doubted she would be able to do anything productive, but I take my hat off to her because she works with the same strength as a man. I was delighted with their work and I hope they get many more jobs, because they did a great job.

As you can see, the one who has enjoyed the proton the most is my canine neighbor Panda, who never misses an opportunity to peek out, say hello, and ask for the door to be opened 😊. On the other hand, you will notice that not everything is finished because now it needs to be curled, the debris needs to be cleared away, it needs to be painted, and the floor needs to be laid so that it looks nice. It's a job I have to do because otherwise, all the changes I'm making won't make sense. I am very happy with everything I have achieved and I have received very good compliments from my neighbors.
