There is a race set before you and for you to be able to go through; you need to be highly focused. Our scripture text seeks for us to put away every form of distraction. Life is full of distractions and you will need to consciously put aside so many things in order to obtain the testimony of a life well spent. Life is more than what you acquire for yourself. The Bible says that “a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth” Luke 12:15.
We need to get this very straight, because, the pursuit for all manner of earthly possessions turns out to be the mother of all forms of distraction. The Author of life defined life as knowing God and His Son Jesus Whom He sent. The race is all about what your knowledge of God makes out of you. In this race, you will discover that you need so much of God’s guidance and you have so much to guard as well.
It is a race in which you cannot afford to be off your guard. In the words of the song writer – “principalities and powers mustering their unseen array, waiting for thine unguarded hour, watch and pray”. You have to be alert and you have to stay focused – “Looking unto Jesus the Author and finisher of our faith” Hebrews 12:2.

It entails focusing on His allowances for the life He has “Authored” for you. Making it in life hinges on focusing on His allowances for you in life will not augur well for your life. We are in His world for His glory; we are not here to do our own. “None of us liveth unto himself and no man dieth unto himself. For whether we live, we live unto the Lord and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore or die, we are the Lord’s” Romans 14:7-8.
The pursuit of His glory which is your primary duty in life, will fetch for you everything you would have ordinarily sought in life. God is a good God! “You shall serve the Lord thy God and He shall bless” Exodus 23:25. If God can guarantee your focus in life, then, every preparation He has earmarked for you is guaranteed as yours.
What Elisha gave in his pursuit for the double portion of the spirit that was on Elijah was focus. He was too focused to be distracted. He set his eyes like a flint and he was not ashamed. The sons of the prophets that saw him as a joker, turned around to bow before him as a master. As you stay focused in life with your heart fixed on the race set before you, those hovering around you mockingly shall turn around in submission to celebrate you.
Good read dear @nuella. When we focus on God and refuse to be distracted in this race, like Elisha, we will receive double portion of blessing. Focusing on this race entails letting go of everything and crucifying yourself on the cross daily to avoid getting distracted by the things of this world even though we are in the world but we are not of this world.
May his grace lead is through....
Amen.
