After Jesus called His disciples and they chose to follow Him, they traveled all over the area together. Jesus told His disciples not to take anything as they traveled! Why do you think that is? He wanted them to trust God to provide all of their needs.
The disciples saw Jesus heal the sick and proclaim that the kingdom of God was at hand. As a confirmation of God's amazing traits, Jesus performed miracles and rose the dead to life.
At some point, Jesus' disciples were sent by him to preach the good news.
Jesus told his disciples
Luke 9:3
“Don’t take anything for the journey. Do not take a walking stick or a bag. Do not take any bread, money or extra clothes.
The Fish And The Bread
John the Baptist was preaching to the people about the right way to live. Acrimonious mindset filled the hearts of some people and hatred became pronounced on John the baptist. King Herod wasn't pleased with John's preaching and had the later killed (Mark 6:14-29)
Multitude of people followed Jesus wherever he went. When the crowd heard that Jesus and his Disciples had gone off to be on their own, they wanted to go there and be with Jesus.
They wanted to see Jesus, hear him preach and watch him perform miracles.
Mark 6:34
“When Jesus came ashore, He saw a large crowd. He felt deep concern for them. They were like sheep without a shepherd. So He began teaching them many things.”
Jesus loved every person in the crowd with no discrimination, he knew that there was still so much that they didn't understand about the kingdom of God.
The people were like Sheep without a Shepherd. Which means they were lost and confused about life.
How amazing is God's love for us his people. Despite our iniquities, Jesus still care for us and shown his mercy by paying the supreme sacrifice on the cross thus, depicting his love.
Late at Night, Jesus looked over the large crowd and asked Philip
(John 6:5)
“Where can we buy bread for these people to eat?”
Since Philip was from this area, this question could have been a simple question of where the shops were located.
Philip was asked the question as a litmus test on him. So many times in the Bible, God asks Men questions to test them.
Philip said
“Eight months’ pay would not buy enough bread for each one to have one bite!” (John 6:7)
As it was getting dark outside, some of the disciples asked Jesus to send everyone away so that the multitude could buy something to eat themselves.
Jesus said to hid disciples. "They do not need to go away, give them something to eat."
Andrew a disciple of Jesus said there is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fishes.
God use someone that everyone overlooked to perform his miracle as Children were not seen as important in that culture.
Lesson: God uses the weakest or least important for greatness
The young boy was willing to give the little he had to Jesus.
Jesus prayed and performed a miracle of multiplication on the gift of five loaves and two fishes.
Lesson: The spirit of giving brings with it no lack and abundance. We should learn to give from the little we have to the poor around us.
It is easier to give out $20 from a total balance of $500. How about giving out $10,000 from $100,000? Quite difficult.
