Obedience is the key

Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God (Romans 13:1)

I heard a story of a christian woman who's habit was defying the laws of the state on environmental sanitation exercise every last Saturday of the month. The reason why she ignored and didn't abide to those laws, according to her was that she was not bound by the laws of man that's because she was doing God's work. So any time the environmental sanitation is on, she will go about with megaphone, preaching the gospel on the streets. One of the days she was arrested and then taken to court where she was tried and then was guilty and was sentenced to one month imprisonment with hard labour. As she was being taken to the prison, she started shouting that it is the will of god that she was fulfilling.

Today, in our text Paul the apostle saw the importance of correcting a wrong impression among most of the believers who's mentality are that government authorities are all demon and they are needless if they should obey them. Apostle Paul pointed out to them saying no government would be In existence if God has not odained it for a purpose. He encouraged and persuaded believers to subject themselves to the laws and authorities of the governmental bodies as such powers are God's instruments

It is unbelievable today that some believers disobey constitutes orders by refusing to pay legitimate dues like taxes. Such Christians also refuse to take part in civic activities of good society. What you will know is that as you refuse or resist the civil government you are actually disobeying God who implemented government in other to maintain orderliness in the society. The fact that your governmental system is corrupt does not make or give you the right to invalidate the necessary obedience to the laws of the land.

In every country, every citizen, despite your religious backgrounds you must adhere to the rules and regulations that governs that land. Disobedience to any law is when that very law is in direct or is not in accordance with the divine law. But even at that, there is still the need for divine intelligence to act rightly.

"The ship that will not obey the helm will have to obey the rocks".
