A Special Day To Remember: My Baby Cousin's Christening

A newly born child granted our family’s wish with grace. She was born on August 19, 2023. A benediction that showered the clan with excitement and love. Eleia Kai A. Abuil, my baby cousin, has now visited the church. Yesterday, we celebrated her christening and her entrance to the Christian world.

Ablution, or christening, is a celebration to welcome the baby into the world of Christians. There is a high chance that the family can reunite and catch up. It is a special day for both the child and the parents. And I was able to witness that special day.

So please stay with me as I share my point of view from the day. Christening wasn’t the only thing celebrated; my other cousin’s birthday celebration also commenced. I hope you guys will have a good time reading or listening to me.

THE PREPARATIONS

Every event is made complete with preparations. "The end is made, because we started."-Anonymous Just like during these kinds of events, we start to decorate to make it proper and appealing to the eyes of the guests.

Me and my siblings took the time to plan the style we wanted. From the colors to the materials, we chose them wisely. We are sophisticated when it comes to designing, since we don’t want our work to turn out just fine. We picked pastel colors as the theme since it’s a Candy Land party. The parents had just enough money for the decorations, so we settled to buy six shades of string crepe papers, balloons, and tape.

After eating our dinner, we started putting up the tarpaulin, then afterwards the crepe papers, and lastly the balloons.

This is the result of our critical two-hour decorating.😅 Please be gentle with us;, we are not highly trained to do this kind of stuff. What do you guys think? Is it appealing? Did we mix the colors right?

TO THE CHURCH

The next day, the household got pretty hyped up early in the morning. Everyone had a race to see who came first to use the bathroom. Dressing up was always a hectic time for women. We spent two hours in the house before getting into the car. Thankfully, we weren’t late for the holy mass at San Vicente Ferrer Parish in Liloan, Cebu. While we are having our mass, the parents of the newly born child and the baby are in the other building for the christening.

After the holy Eucharist mass, we swiftly traveled across to see the baby. We took a picture of them and decided to continue the celebration at home.

THE CELEBRATION PARTY

My grandfather led the prayer for lunch. After, the guests formed a line to get their food from the center table. There was a Lechon! The famous roasted pig, which is a proudly Filipino made. Also, lumpia Shanghai, Calamares, Chicharon Bulaklak, or the insides of the pig but being cooked, and Lechon Manok. For the dessert, there was the tapioca with a corn salad.

Everyone took their time eating lunch. Then my auntie turned on the speakers to encourage the guests to sing karaoke. You see? "Tell me you’re a Filipino without telling me you’re a Filipino." KARAOKE! Every Filipino never leaves the karaoke during celebration parties. This also applies to our household, which is filled with singers.

OTHER EVENTS HAPPENING IN THE HOUSEHOLD

The minors, including me, decided to play a game. The King Cups. This is a fun game; you guys can try it with your friends. I can’t explain the mechanics of the game since each card has a role in the game, and it would take me an eternity to do so in this blog. Sorry guys.

But the catch of the game. The three people who get the King card will put any mixture into a shot glass. One person, one ingredient. Then, the fourth person who gets the last King card will be the one to drink the cup filled with different ingredients.

We had so much fun playing the game while the adults were doing karaoke downstairs and maybe sharing glasses of beverages that minors were not allowed to intake.

NOTE: I also recommend that parents let their children stay away from the sight of alcoholic beverages or any vices that can make them curious. Especially during celebration parties.

The newly born baby was kept inside the bedroom when the living room was still full, since she was sound asleep.

The second activity we did was play badminton. Me and my cousins played outside. And guess what? The shuttlecock flew off the roof.😂

So here’s my younger cousin climbing up to get it. We did get permission first from the owner of the roof before he climbed there.

NOTE: Please take precautions when doing acts like this. It is better for a person who knows how to climb to do the act. Climbing up the roof is not advisable for children.

Then we continued our play with so much agility and the spirit of competitiveness. We grew tired of the game and went back inside.

AFTER DINNER

This was by far the best time of the day. The minors now get to use the karaoke, and the baby was wide awake to join our party. Lights were turned off once the music started to go on, but we didn’t worry since a disco light was put below. The vibes were giving off a KTV feel. Everyone sang along with each other; even my grandmother had fun and jazzed with the music.

Then a surprise came for the birthday girl! Her parents bought a cake secretly. I took the video and pictures of the given surprise. My younger cousin gave a priceless reaction to the surprise. When she saw the cake, she smiled and was shy at first, then she suddenly cried over joy. This was the time that I realized that this young girl is so fragile and sweet. She was so happy with her cake.

You can see here that another cousin of mine was so excited to take her slice of cake.😅

We resumed our party for hours, then we turned off the karaoke when the clock struck nine p.m. Then we had our late-night talks with my cousins in our room. After that, we went to sleep.

I feel like the christening was an excuse for our whole family to get together and catch up. The long distance we share with our relatives came close because of the ablution. It’s truly special for the baby and also for the family.

The family welcomes baby Eleia to the Christian world!
