The date was 28th October, Monday. Seemingly quite an ordinary day, except from the fact that my wife wasnt at home. I and the children were expecting her to come back home from a work trip in USA. In the early evening the flight landed on the Airport in Sofia, Bulgaria. Just a few more hours and she is gonna be home again… The kids are waiting with anticipation, just like their father. When everyone from the family is home the happiness is great.
My wife told me that the baggage jas collected and they are departing from the airport. “I am happy that I will hug the kids soon!” she wrote me. I was happy too.
We both use iPhones and we share each others location. Thats quite convenient to theack someone when traveling and be aware of their location. On one of my location checks I saw that her location was staying the same. No gas station or parking around. I started to be a bit concerned.
I started to call her on the phone, but didn’t receive an answer, just the phone ringing endlessly. I wasnt sure what was happening there, so I decided to check the Waze app. It shows road situation in real time, per teports of other people around. And when I found the location where she was stopped I saw the thing that I hoped sincerely not to see. The car crash icon…
My heart stopped… I know that on the highways the car crashes may be severe, because of the fast speeds. I hoped that she was not injured, maybe just scared or maybe trying to help people infolved. I phoned her parents, because the man, whi was traveling with her and driving the car was a friend of her father. A minute later I received a call back.
There was a crash, Eli is still in the car…
The next few hours were just the biggest nightmare for me. The scare that I can loose my soulmate was immerse. I just hoped and prayed for her, to be alive and to be around me and the three kids pretty soon.
Arriving in the hospital, we understood that the doctors are fighting for her life and she had lost a lot of blood. The doctors said that her right foot was severely injured, but this was gonna be a problem to be solved later.
“Parts of her bones are on the highway now!”
But now they were focussing on her life. An hour or so later, they said that they stopped the bleeding and for now the sotuation was under control. This didn’t mean that her life was out of danger…
A week or so later, she was a lot more stable, but the doctors didn’t know what to do with her foot. Being a smaller hospital, they didn’t have the experience to work adequately. The foot had an open fracture with a lot of bone fragments inside and some out of the body. The foot was almost amputated around the knee in the crash. Time to bring here somewhere where the doctors know what to do.
The date is 5th November. We managed to bring Eli in one of the biggest hospitals and fefibitely the one where the heaviest injuries in craches or accidents get treated. The professor told us that this is one of the most severe and unusual leg injuries that he has ever seen. The healing prosess was gonna be long and bumpy… he told us that the full recovery was gonna take about two years.
The infected wound itself would require about a month to be cleaned and healed. A skin transplantation was gonna be needed…
The date is 10th December. The skin transplantation took place. Meanwhile Eli seems do be a lot better after a small hematoma that occured in her head afrer the crash. She was no longer heavily confised in her thoughts. The healing process seemed to be occuring adequately. The fear of losing her was replaced with fears about her leg. Is she gonna be able to walk again on her own, normally? Does she gonna enjoy again her normal life one day?
23th December. A couple days before christmas. The hopes of her being home for Christmas were vanished after the sixth intervention. She received metals (plaques and screws) in her foot at the cost of about $4000. It was gonna be a lonely Christmas in our home, but at least she was one operation closer to potential recovery and coming back home.
With the days counting, whe was looking stronger and ready to walk and soon the first steps out of the bed, after almost two months were made.
Meanwhile the kids were waiting for mommy. I told to myself, that the Christmas should not be our celebration this year. Our biggest celebration would be when mommy comes home.
And on the 30th December the most anticipated moment came. She was back at home after more than two months and a half.
Our house never seemed that full and releived, at least lately since the mid-October. The kids were happy, I was a lot more calm. Yes, it was gonna be so much harder now, but at least we were together again. Sadly, one week later, when we came back to the hospital for a control examination, the professor saw that there was a building infecrion on one of the stitches. And now, she is back in the hospital again, dealing with an infection.
My only thoughts and hopes now are adressed towards a fast recovery from that nasty thing and seeing my soulmate home again, happy with the kids. The overall bill by now surpasses $10 000, and maybe gets close to $15 000, but after all when it is about human helath, money doesn’t matter at all. I would gladly give my last penny in order to see my wife healthy and walking again.
The road is gonna be long and bumpy… 😔
Fast recovery 🙏
Goodness! I'm so happy your wife is recovering, and that she kept her leg. Gosh. I can't imagine all the fear and anxiety you've been through while having to endure all that it takes, your kids, your expectations.
Sending a big hug, friend, an my best wishes to your wife and your beautiful family.
There are a lot of thoughts that are still frightening to us, now this infection, but I hope that everything’s gonna be all right pretty soon. Thank you for stopping by and thank you for the tip!
Let’s hope for the best! ☺️
I can imagine how terrifying it was!
Glad to know your wife was safe, hoping for positive results during the medications
We are all hoping for a good outcome. ☺️
I am so sorry to hear about the accident my friend @mdosev..... I'm sure with the support you are giving him and with the company of the kids he will soon feel better. Recovery can be slow but if family love and support is present you can cope better. Blessings to your family 🙏🏼
Thank you a lot! Times are tough, but hopefully this will pass soon.
Sorry to hear about the accident @mdosev, such an awful thing to happen and your kids are so young as well. There must be so much pressure on you to take care of everything and everyone at home noe, hopefully you have support from other family members to help you out.
I'm sure with all the love and care, your wife will recover very soon, albeit at a slow pace. All the best on the road to recovery.
I feel that the main pressure is focused on me, not mentioning the mental and physical challenge that my wife has to cope with. Luckily the whole family, her parents, her sister and my mother are actively helping. Hoping for better days and quick recovery in 2025.
Life and its abrupt experiences, they never stop, do they? I myself went through quite a bit in the year 2024, mostly because of my father's deteriorating health. Yet, I am still hopeful. Best of luck to you and your family. Make sure you use this time to stay close and beside each other. Spend as much time as possible together. Because at the end of the day, it's our loved ones that make this life worth living.
May 2025 be a year filled with love and kindness. 🙏
Thanks for the beautiful wishes. Let’s hope that everything will end up positively… Hope is that will push us forward on the bumpy road of healing.
Hope that health will be a main part of your family in 2025 too! Best wishes!
Health, family, and purpose! That's my goal for 2025. May we all have the chance to achieve our goals for the year 2025. ✨
I am very sorry your wife had this terrible accident. So difficult situation for the whole family, and what a fear. I hope the best for her and that this infection calms down, I hope for a complete recovery for her and to be at home as soon as it is safe for her!
Home is the best place for her, next to the kids. We hope that she will be here again in no time. ☺️
Sometimes we think it doesn't happen to us and in the blink of an eye the picture becomes different. I am very happy to hear that you are feeling well, the worst is over and you are recovering to start the year on the right foot. Blessings to the family, full of health and abundance.
Thanks a lot! It is true that no one tends to think that bad things will happen, but they sadly do… It is gonna be a great challenge, and whatever happens from now on we will have to adapt to a slightly different style of life, at least the following couple of years.
Thanks for your positive energy!
What an ordeal for your entire family! Sending healing thoughts to your wife and big hugs for you.
Thanks a lot!
I really understand about that experience, last year I had an accident the time will be passed to be the memory, hope your wife get well soon and stay healthy with your lovely family 🤍🙏
Thank you a lot! Time passes, she recovers but everything is happening so slow…

Despite the dark things that happened, it's great to see your kids and the whole family together after all those scary events... As I can see, your wife is a warrior and she has a huge support from you, which is most important in difficult times...

Oh no! That's scary and terrifying! I really hope she has a quick and easy recovery, without pain and to keep her smile on. Lots of health for the whole family!!
Thanks a lot! We all hope to see her recover fast! ☺️
So sad to hear that, and good to know she's safe now. I pray her fast improvement and doing well.
Glad she is safe, but the real battle just begins! A lot of courage and patience will be needed. ☺️
I'm so very sorry! But thank goodness she is out of the hospital and back home (I imagine that must be a huge relief for your lovely wife at least on a psychological level). Hoping better days find you soon!
Actually, she is now back at the hospital to treat an infection on one of the stitches, but hope that this is gonna end positively quite soon. Still she is alive, around us and feels better.
Thanks for the nice comment!
The night can't get much longer....it was a terrifying things wait for loved one and ended up with nightmare experience...all strength to you...soon life will be on track...happy homecoming....
The nightmare still continues, but now it is already a more mild one. We are still positive and expect a full recovery. Time will tell. Thanks for stopping by.
Praying for her fast recovery!
I’m so sorry you all had to go through this terrible thing. The most important thing is that she made it out alive. I wish her a speedy recovery and peaceful healing. It’s so lovely to se your support and strength. Stay strong 💪🏻:)!!!
We will be strong together, as much as we possibly can. We look forward now to a longer stay at home, where she will be a lot more calm and comfortable… and of course in the company of her kids ☺️
Oh my goodness, that was so terrifying. Thank God you are okay now because your kids are waiting for you and they are so lovely. You have an amazing family.
Thank you very much!
Terrific Christmas. A good thing she stayed safe in the end, and your kids did not become orphans. She was not the driver, as far I understood - but who was to blame in the crash, huh ... ?
You understood right! She was not the driver. The man who was driving the car probably fell asleep for a second and they crashed in a stationary lorry.
Thank god, she is alive and currently recovering from that nightmare!
Wishing her a quick recovery
Thank you!
I hope you recover soon. Above all, have a lot of patience.
It will be needed for sure. Thank you!
Challenges fuel innovation, let's thrive! Every bump leads to growth and every obstacle is an opportunity.
True! Thanks for stopping by!
I'm so sorry and hurt to hear that. It is always unexpected, and I wish you patience in this hardship and the strength to be a strong man mentally to make your kids feel better. Time will make it easier, and everything will be fine. I am always shocked that the cost of treatment is so high there; I have seen many Bangladeshi people get treatment in Bangladesh at less cost, including return tickets from Europe and America, especially for dental and eye treatment. Take care, and I pray for a faster recovery of your wife.
We expect some good amount of money from the insurances, maybe at least $50 000, but this is really only words for now. It will be a lot more time until we get compensated in some way. Until then we will need to invest our own funds.
I sincerely hope that the worst is behind us already and we will see only better times from now on.
I read this while holding my breath 🫢but there was too much text, I really feel for you and your wife and especially for the little ones!
Aren't you guys ensured for things like this where you live?
I wish she gets better soon and regains full control and usability of her leg, take care!
Thanks for the good wishes. We are insured, but no compensation from the vehicle’s insurance won’t be paid before the case is finished in the court. This may take more than half a year.
And medical care, although free doesn’t cover certain materials like all the metals used to fix the bones. Neither it covers some vac bandages that treat infections faster and better. They are a bit pricey too. We tend to pay for a separate double room at the hospital, because she needs attendant to help her, because she can barely walk now.
Hope that this will end sooner than expected, but still a long road to go.
Oh my, I can't imgine the pains your family is going through right now. I pray you all come out of this successfully
Thanks a lot! Pretty hard times came to my family, but know that this will fade away, although at a very slow pace.
It might look slow now, but very soon you would look back and see it has passed.
So sorry dear, by God's grace everything will be fine.
Sincerely hope so… thanks!
I've been meaning to message you but thought maybe you took a long break over this season.
However, just 30 minutes ago I made the decision that I'd reach out today, only to see your post now.
I'm sorry to hear about your wife and the distress for your family I'm out of words, but my thoughts are of you all.
My best wishes for better days🤗Hey @mdosev
I barely found strength and courage to finish this post. Definitely these last moths are one of the most terrifying and hard for me and we are barely at the beginning of the healing and rehabilitation process. I can only hope that all of this will end up positively and she will have two healthy feet. 😊
My heart aches for you, and no pun intended... but it will be one baby step at a time. 💞⏳
Reading your story made my heart skipped a beat. I am glad that she's fine now. Hoping for her to get better sooner. !BBH
Fine is not the right word here… I would say she is definitely better, but not fine yet. I hope that she will feel a lot better soon.
