After-Class Adventures: Random Hike and Sunset Viewing

in Family & Friends ā€¢ 3 months ago

Hello, Hivers! It's @lizhavesomefun with another tale to tell! šŸ˜ŠšŸ’—

Maybe it's because the year's ending and I'm feeling a little sentimental, but I suddenly remembered that one time, my whole section just decided to climb the mountain near our campus, just above the Deca Homes at Sabang, Danao City. It was after class, we were sophomores, and the day was over. We were already spent (literally) and were supposed to head home at 4 in the afternoon. Honestly, it was just one of those spontaneous decisions we made without thinking much about itā€” it was a decision made after witnessing such beautiful skies on our campus.

A WHIM

It all started as a random whim. Someone just casually mentioned wanting to watch the sunset from the top of the mountainā€”saying that it should be a lot more beautiful from the view at our 3rd-floor buildingā€”and the next thing we knew, we were all in. It wasn't even a proper planā€”more like a half-hearted invitation that showed everyone felt compelled to join in (peer pressure is real, hahaha). We thought the mountain was just nearby since we could see it from the road and our building (hahaha, what a joke). Thankfully, there were a lot of stores on the way, so we grabbed whatever we couldā€”junk foods, bread, and bottled water. It wasn't ideal, but it worked.

The hike? It was hangak (tiring), to say the least. The road is concrete (there's a village/subdivision on the mountain itself), so it was pretty smooth for the most part. Still, some rough patches are also on the wayā€”a pain for those wearing their school shoes (with heels on). But I still remember how much fun it was, despite how exhausting it got. Despite being out of breath, we were all laughing, helping each other out, and just enjoying the whole experience. It wasn't about how unprepared we were but about the company and the thrill of doing something so random together.

REACHING THE TOP

When we finally reached the top, all the exhaustion was suddenly forgotten. What followed was pure chaos-- in the best way, of course. Everyone was running around, shouting, laughing, and being wild and playful.

Yeah, we're just 20 year-old teenagers. We were once a child and will forever be young at our hearts.

Some of us collapsed onto the ground, exhausted from the climb. In contrast, others (including me) started taking photos of the view and of themselves. I wouldn't describe it as a calm, quiet moment; it was messy and loud, just how we liked it. We were just second years making the most of our college life after a long day of exams.

While on top, we had many photo ops, TikTok, and other shenanigans. Our laughter echoes, and our hearts are full.

WATCHING THE SUNSET

And then the sunset happened. We didn't miss soaking and capturing the moment. We took selfies and groupiesā€”then suddenly, the noise faded, and we all found a spot to sit and watch. The sky turned this stunning orange, yellow, pink, and purple mix.

For a few minutes, it felt like time stopped. No one said much, then after a few minutes, the chaotic energy came back, and so did the laughter.

At that moment, we weren't just classmates anymore. We were a group of young people sharing something extraordinary. There were no deadlines, stress, or pressureā€”just us and the beauty of the world around us. I actually made a video of us with "We Are Young by Fun" as the background musicā€”it made the memories even more special.

After the sun disappeared, we stayed a bit longer, eating junk food and joking about how we should do this again someday (though deep down, we all knew we probably wouldn't). That made it so specialā€”it was a one-time random thing, and they can't be replicated.

Heading Back Down

Collage (50).png

Heading back down wasn't exactly easy, either. It was already dark; we had to rely on our phone's flashlight to find the path on our way back, but the laughter, jump scares, and ghost stories along the way helped bring good vibes and maintain the group's energy. By the time we got back to the road, we were all exhausted but happy. Oh, by the way, we picked up our trash-- we don't litter. Continuing, it wasn't just about the hike or the viewā€”it was the whole experience, the people I was with, and how something so unplanned turned out to be one of the best memories we created that year.

As the year wraps up, I keep thinking about how important it is to say yes more oftenā€”to spontaneous adventures, unplanned moments, and people who make life a little bit more exciting. This hike, or this day in general, taught me that sometimes the best memories come from the things you don't plan, but then again, most of our adventures are unplanned and spontaneous because most of the planned ones will always end up as "drawing," hahaha.

How about you, dear Hive friends?āœØ Have you ever done something on a whim that turned out to be unforgettable? I'd love to hear your stories in the comments!šŸ’—
